Just posting this as a help to others. Filed taxes with TurboTax TT married filing jointly on Jan 23 and accepted the same day. Got a DDD on Saturday morning Feb 1 with a DDD of 2/6.

Decided to get fees deducted from return. Direct deposit to wife’s bank account which is only under her name. Now Turbo tax and bank (Chime bancorp bank) states that as long as one name matches the deposit, it will go through no problem. I have done this before and the if the deposit is straight from the IRS, it will include both names.

Sbtpg received my refund from the IRS on 2/5/19 evening, deducted their fees on 2/5/19 and sent the rest to the bank that evening at around 10 pm CST.

SBTPG ONLY INCLUDES PRIMARY FILER’S NAME. So my spouse’s name was not on the deposit and her bank returned the deposit to Sbtpg the next day 2.6.19.
Sbtpg received the funds back on 2.7.19 and printed a check that same day. Checks from sbtpg get mailed every Friday (according to a customer service rep I spoke with today). So my check should be mailed tomorrow 2/8/2019.

Moral of the story, if getting fees taken out of refund, make sure the bank it get deposited to is under the primary spouse’s name.

@guy Well let’s say you file through Turbo Tax. You sign a form towards the end of filing to allow them/IRS to send your info to SBTPG. So if you get fees taken out through SBTPG, you sign the form allowing them to get your tax info, so they can receive your info/refund, take their fees and send your refund.

I learned my lesson with this two years ago, not through SBTPG but just generally having the return electronically deposited. I had like 4 family members staking out my mailbox for a week. It came, but maaaaannnn it was scary, that was a big check too.

so it goes like this. whoever the headfilers not spuses and kids etc…just the head filer ….name is must be the head on the bank acct. been like this for years. sorry if you just found this out. its to prevent fraud. now if both names were on the bank acct it would have went through.
