Hi. So I claimed my child who was born alive and died a couple hours later. According to a tax professional I spoke with and the IRS website, you can claim a child who was alive in 2019 even if for a few hours.

Well I checked my transcripts which had a 570 hold. They didn’t give me any of my education credits and instead of getting the 3k I’m getting $180. What the hell happened? I didn’t have an offset and I sent proof in my mailed returns that my daughter was alive and then became deceased. Do I have to amend?

      I’m so stressed out.

It sounds like it may be an audit, and sometimes what they will do is send part of your refund until you send in information to prove earned income credit and/or head of househould. Letter could be in the mail

Agreed about the congressional inquiry. It will get things moving.

First of all, I am so very sorry for the loss of your baby daughter. As a mother myself, I cannot imagine a worst pain in the world. I hope you are doing ok, considering 😥

Second, that sounds like a question only the lovely folks at the lovely irs could answer for you. Have you tried to get in touch with them? The number I’ve been calling is 800-829-0582 and use extension 652 or 653. Good luck, I hope you are able to get the answers you definitely deserve!

How terrible!! Bad enough that you went through what you went through last year…now the govt is making you guess at what to do and they shortchanged monies owed to you. Call your local congressman and get a congressional inquiry going. The IRS will act quickly on the inquiry.
