I have a question. I thought I owed money for a past account that was sent to collections from a few years ago so I was assuming this would be withheld from my tax refund this year. I just checked the “get my refund status” on the IRS website and my refund has been approved and says it will be deposited on May 19 for the amount that I showed after my taxes were done. If part of my refund was being withheld, would it reflect on the IRS website or does it not show on that?

If you have code 898 on your transcript for unemployment are they allowed to take your whole refund or just a portion and put it towards your overpaid balance?

Code 898 is the code for an offset (non irs debts) and usually appears on transcripts 11 days after code 846 refund date.

If there is an offset does that mean you’re not getting your direct deposit and your refund is going to be delayed?

So I have code 150 on my transcript with an amount by it. From what I’m reading that’s a tax liability and I owe it. I’m confused because I can’t think of any reason why. How do I figure that out? My transcript shows my credits just waiting on 846, so I don’t know if I would even see a letter until after path lifts.

I read irs won’t garnish refunds till may 2022 not sure if they would hold your return till then or give you your refund.

When I had an offset (that I had to do an offset bypass refund – but that’s a whole other can of worms :) it was coded as 826 on my transcripts. Any offset amount will show on your transcripts and generally will not have a – (minus) sign before the amount.

Hope that helps and good luck!

I will get on and see if I can pull my transcripts now. Is there a certain code I should be looking for if they will be offset or will it clearly have an offset amount on there?
Also, thank you for the response!

It would show, You would have a code on the WMR website, and typically the amount shown on WMR will show the amount AFTER any offset has been taken. So you should (hopefully) be getting the full amount. Do you have access to your transcripts as that would tell you more?
