I called IRS. They said I haven’t filed my 2016 taxes so my refund is being frozen. This is out of left field for me because I had no clue. What’s even worse, like some of you I am sure, I am depending on this. I usually don’t depend on it for a big reason. I am moving my kids and husband across country and was using this to do so. Without that, it is a snowball of losing my housing.

The woman I spoke with was really helpful and filled out a form for a tax advocate to reach out in “24-72” hours. They want me to file 2016, hold onto it, and then hopefully fax/scan it over to my assigned advocate who will supposedly lift the hold.

I have mixed feelings about that timeline due to peak season.
Has anyone dealt with a tax advocate?? Can someone tell me their experience..

Yes I dealt with them personally and they are great. Just to let you know it’s quite a process ( time consuming). When they ask you for all the paperwork, give it all to them. Once they all have it, it’s a waiting game again. The earlier you get started the better. Best wishes
