      Hi all,

I am hoping someone will be able to provide insight that makes this look like something other than what it appears now…,

I know there have been a ton of delays and issues this season already. I just pulled my transcript for this first time this year and nearly had a heart attack. We all know that we aren’t supposed to count on our refunds but…. you know, reality….

I filed before the open of the season and obtained a refund advance. I received an email on 1/16 that the IRS has received my return. I fall under PATH Act so I knew not to expect anything for awhile.

Fast forward to today and I have a freeze showing.

      The transcript is as follows:
      Cycle date: 20190405
      150 – date: 2/11/19
      806 –
      766 –
768 – all three with dates of 4/15/19
      424 – Examination request – 2/14/19
      810 – refund freeze – date: 3/04/19

Has anyone else experienced this (now or in the past)?!?
Is this something that may just resolve on its own, or is this exactly what it looks like?

I have always filed with H&R and done my own taxes, for more than a decade and have never had a single issue. Went with a different preparer this year for the advance, could it be an identity issue?

Along with most everyone else, I had a bar showing accepted that disappeared within WMR and have only had the message of the return being received and is being processed since.

Thanks for any help. Really freaked out right now.

      All the best,
      Karen

And so basically – on 2/22 the 424 dropped off, 810 remained, and the 420 appeared. The ‘as of’ date changed from 3/03 to 3/11.
WMR still stated “We have received your tax return and it is being processed” but was followed by a new reference to Tax Topic 151, Appeal Rights.

Has anyone received that message and NOT had an audit?!?

I sincerely hope for something as simple as that! Did you get the 420 as well?

Sorry to hear that. On my transcript from 2/22, I have flipped from a 424 to a 420 – so audit it is, I guess

I am so sorry to hear you had to go through all of that. What a mess. My 45 day mark will not be until March 6th. – hope they can do something. Figures this would occur the first year I actually need (& sadly) was replying upon it….

Ken: thanks again. I appreciate the input. You are absolutely right about not much holding true.
Transcript didn’t update the following day however on the 22nd, it did.

Thanks again to everyone. This has been a nightmare in the span of a few days.

Hi Karen – would you mind sharing what WMR looks like for you? Do you have 1 bar…does it say being processed? Curious bc I have been stuck there for a while but cannot access my transcript to get further info. Was wondering if WMR has a message for your situation. Sorry for your delay. Tks.

If 424 turns into 420 it’s an audit. It happened to me last year.

If you are still not seeing movement at your 45 day mark call a TA….they can help a ton.

I wish I could tell you this would solve itself on its own… But I can’t. There is a very large difference between Examination request and manual reviews. Manual reviews usually take care of themselves within a couple weeks… And would be a different transcript code (usually 570). Examination requests take longer and require you receiving the examination information request from the IRS via snail mail… Sending in the information they requested and praying they receive that are satisfied with what you sent and process it quickly.

I went through this 4 years ago. A monthh after filing I got the examination request in the mail mailed it that day and checked my transcripts daily for almost another 3 months with no further action or contact from the IRS, finally after 4 months total waiting, I contacted the Taxpayer Advocate service. Waited on hold for 3 hours but it was worth it. Explained what was happening from my end, she looked into my case called me back later that day and told me she was going to put pressure on the examination department on my behalf. The next morning she called me and said i should be good and would see some movement on WMR probably that Saturday. I check the transcript Friday and got the 846. Saturday got the ddd on WMR.

Moral of the story…. Call the Taxpayer Advocate service after 45 days after your acceptance date (the earliest they can help)

I’m going to be honest and say that I don’t think very much from past years is going to hold true for this year. I’ve seen plenty of people state that daily updaters will see their transcripts update tonight/tomorrow AM, and weekly Friday night/Saturday AM. I’ve not able to check my own transcripts so I’ve no idea how often this happens or if it’s even accurate.

Thank you both, Ken and BrittBratt!!

Is it true that transcripts only update once a week?

Again, I have never experienced any issues before so this whole thing is new to me!!

Keep checking your transcripts. If they update with code 811, that means they’ve removed the freeze. This happens sometimes when a return is pulled for manual review.
