I still can’t get a clear answer on this topic…

If you are on the path and you can see your credits on your transcript with no type of freeze codes from the time of acceptance up until the 15th when path lifts (lets say 21 says is up) and the returns is processed already and just waiting for the 846, can your return be held up or would they have did that before the 15?? When i Say held up, i mean with any bad codes

I think path should apply to everyone then, not just certain income brackets. If it’s meant to protect us from identity theft, then shouldn’t it apply to everyone, since everyone has an identity??? Just somethinging for ya brains. Come on DDD.

            To @Payday19,
I agree with what you wrote in regards to the IRS holding refunds to make sure no one else files with duplicate ss#’s, but on THAT note, as far as I am aware….they won’t hold your refund UNLESS there are duplicate filings AND the 2nd person to file is rejected ( due to ss# already used once) AND THAT 2nd person reports it to them for fraud or contests whoever used that ss# illegally. Otherwise the IRS just rejects any filings with ss#’s that have already been claimed. And/or IF they receive MULTIPLE/MANY people filing with the exact same ss#. Examples: recently a family filed HOH with her 3 kids ( 1 from an ex, 2 from her current boyfriend) her tax return was rejected immediately after e-filing stating that one of her dependants ss# has already been claimed and therefore she cannot claim the same child. So she returned to the H&R Block office and had them remove that 1 child which resulted obviously in a lower refund. Within minutes the IRS Accepted her return & she had her refund within 2 weeks. She assumed her ex used their daughter on his tax return illegally since he doesn’t even visit or pay child support. But because she didn’t report it immediately, her ex was paid for EITC/EIC for their daughter as well as HER tax refund wasn’t delayed. After she got her refund, she filed a report of fraud & subsequently submitted ALL paperwork and proof that she legally should have received the refund for THAT child. It took almost a year BUT she got a check for the difference and NOW apparently her ex is banned from claiming ANY EITC/EIC for 10yrs PLUS has to repay the IRS with fines/penalties & interest!
Another example: 85 people filed income tax returns with the SAME NAME & SS# and the 1st person who got accepted ( an EARLY FILER) was given a refund. 83 of the other 85 people did not report it nor did they contest it when their returns were rejected. But 1 person DID report the fraud AND THAT WAS THE ONE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY WAS the legal one allowed to do so, this was the REAL person whose name & ss# were fraudulantly used the 84 other times. Now this was a few yrs ago, as far as I know, she still hasn’t received her refund from THAT YEAR and every year since she has to go through ALOT of red tape & following up to prove who she is in order to get her refund, not to mention….its totally destroyed her credit! They say it may take up to 5 yrs or more to clear it all up and even then not everything that was affected will be corrected. I suggested she fight to get another ss#, but THAT takes ALOT of time & money for lawyers and usually they require it to be a life threatening reason, not a prob with credit or filing taxes type prob.

I would assume the whole point of not releasing path returns until after the 15th would be to see if someone else filed a return with your information, someone tried to claim your dependent, and steal your credits. If they fully processed our returns but we’re just holding them until after the 15th, they wouldnt catch the person committing fraud. So I would say our returns have been partially processed and after the 15th they are going to run them through again to check for duplicate returns, if your dependent is being claimed on ànother return, etc. The point of PATH is to protect us from fraud.

Next week unless you have a Rush card. When the IRS provides notification of an incoming scheduled deposit Rush card will front the funds and make them available up to 10 days before the actual transmission.
