OK, I’m over 50 years old and have been filing returns for a very long time. I have never seen anything like what I am experiencing this year. There are so many people who are also stuck in this Processing black hole. I thought that if we all share some basic information about our situations that we might be able to figure out any common denominators in this mess. Please copy this list of questions and paste them in your response with the answers. I will do the same.
Also, if you learn anything new, get a DDD date, WMR updates or you get your refund…please update by replying to your own original post. Thanks for all who take part!

@ TAM
Good idea, and intention. But with the lies, deception, and lack of true transparency, we will never know. Being a few years older than, I think you can agree- this is NOT the America we grew up in. So what are we gonna do about it?

@Michael in SC I’m over 50 years old and have been doing my own taxes most of my adult life. I have never had this happen before. The IRS workers will tell you completely different things each time you call. I spoked to at least 4 IRS people, as many as 6 and none were consistent. The Tax Advocates can see more but even they don’t seem to know exactly what it is you need to do based on looking at your case. It’s almost as if there was some kind of bug in the system that kicked a ton of people’s returns out of the system and now they need to do them manually or something. It’s one thing if the system glitched out or something…that can happen…but leaving so many people completely in the dark and violating the Tax Payer Rights they are bound to adhere to is just complete negligence.

@givememydam
My heath insurance was a non issue in my return. Nothing stands out at all in my taxes. Besides the two credits my taxes are simple as they can get. Same company I have work for several years, same address nothing has changed in my life in several years. A friend of mine has been doing taxes for years and they told me there has been a huge amount of her clients who filed have had their returns held up. That she hasn’t ever seen anything like this

@Michael in SC My adult daughter gets EITC and CTC and she filed the same time you did and got her refund 2 weeks ago on February 26th. The IRS people are just making things up because they don’t even seem to know what is going on. I did read that the IRS will not process any returns that don’t address health coverage in some way.
I can’t post the link but this is from the IRS webpage:
“IRS Statement on Health Care Reporting Requirement
For the 2018 filing season, the IRS will not accept electronically filed tax returns where the taxpayer does not address the health coverage requirements of the Affordable Care Act. The IRS will not accept the electronic tax return until the taxpayer indicates whether they had coverage, had an exemption or will make a shared responsibility payment. In addition, returns filed on paper that do not address the health coverage requirements may be suspended pending the receipt of additional information and any refunds may be delayed.”I only just saw this today. Apparently the IRS extended the time companies had to submit those to the IRS to April 2nd. That could be the cause of some of the delay for people.

I filed on the 16th and call the IRS today because there’s been nothing on the wmr for me. I had a really good and professional IRS agent who was very helpful. He basically came back and told me that because I have the child credit in the Earned Income Tax Credit that even though I filed February 16th and was accepted that day that just about everyone who like me has the earned income tax credit and the child credit are being delayed just like people were before February 15th. That everyone with a tax return like mine could be reviewed and it take more than a month

OK, so I’m seeing using Turbo Tax and not getting insurance through the Marketplace and both W2 and 1099 income as a theme so far. My adult daughter used Turbo Tax and didn’t have marketplace insurance but she only had 1099 income as she is an independent contractor. She didn’t file until just after the 15th of February, though.

@givememydamnmoney: It came regular mail, not certified. My wife is self-employed, and we did take deductions, but primarily move-related for my job. The 1099-related deductions were miniscule (< 1000).
I’m certain the 4883C was due to us relocating to a different state last March.

@justagey was your letter regular mail or did it come certified? Also, were you self employed and did you take any deductions?
Our similarities is Turbo Tax, WMR message, both W2 and 1099 and no marketplace insurance unless you were also self employed and took any deductions.
