I got a notice last year of August stating that I owe. A close friend said they give a one year notice before they start taking your refunds so I should get my full refund this year. It doesn’t sound right. Can anyone confirm this?

So I found out that I have until the due date to pay it off so until the due date come and go. I will receive refund. If I don’t pay it off by the time the new tax season come they will take my refund that year.

Have you called them? I always thought there was some kind of an appeals process before they just grabbed your tax refund. I could be wrong. Generally, you are sent a notice of offset, not just the you owe us money letter. The offset line won’t help you as it doesn’t report on IRS tax debt. You should call them and find out.

When I owed for a Prior year they will take that money that is owed to them and if there is any remaining left than you will get that refunded to you.

Do they delay your refund if you owe? I owe but not enough from them to grab my entire refund. Could that be why my refund has been delayed this year?

They will grab this year. I’ve never heard of a one year grace period. When I owed, they took it from my refund immediately.

I got a notice that i owed in 2018 and it said i had time to respond to it. J expected them to take it from our refund last year but they did not. April last year i got an official notice that i owed so i expect theyll take it this year.

They’ll take whatever you owe out of it if you owe more than your refund the whole thing will be gone and unless you pay throughout the year the rest will be taken from next years return as well

                          2. You owe back taxes.

If you owe back taxes, the IRS will take all your refunds to pay your tax bill, until it’s paid off. The IRS will take your refund even if you’re in a payment plan (called an installment agreement). But if you can’t pay your taxes right away, it’s always best to get into an IRS payment agreement to minimize penalties and interest, and prevent collection enforcement actions.

Yes, kiss your refund goodbye! Unless somehow it’s slips through some loophole or glitch. But they’re on it now they say, they’re constantly updating their software.

That doesn’t sound right to me. The IRS doesn’t care about any individual and Uncle Sam wants his money. I hate to say it but you should fully expect your refund to be grabbed if you owe.
