Always Unhappy at Tax Time :(

I have a child support offset. My refund is for more than what the offset is. Does anybody know if they will hold my entire refund or do they take out what I owe and then give me what’s left like normal? meaning will I have to wait forever for what’s left out of the refund the same way as the person waiting for the offset or will I get the rest of it as if there wasn’t an offset? Also will my wmr update with the path message or will it update with a different message? Sorry it’s my first year filing with an offset. Just trying to figure everything out and I’m getting mixed answers from Google lol thank you in advance for the answers.

Don’t know specifically about child support but in 2014 I had an offset of $2300 for overpaid unemployment. Even though my refund was $7k they only took $1200, then in 2015 they took $500, then in 2016 they took $600. I thought it was strange but I got to keep more money so I wasn’t complaining. Not sure if this os how it works for everyone….but that’s my story

I pay child support in Arkansas and get charged roughly $1200 in court fees every year for no reason (no court, not contesting anything, no custody whatsoever or visitation, and pay $360 a month on time out of my paycheck). They always offset my federal return and or state return and the remaining refund comes as normal. Couldn’t tell you if it slows it down cause I always have an offset but I can tell you before the Path Act I generally saw my return in 7-10 days, so would assume it doesn’t hold it up but an extra day or so at most.

My MIL had an offset a few years ago that pertained to unpaid taxes. It didn’t seem to hold up her refund at all. She got it right on time, but with that portion of the refund missing.

I know it’s not exactly the same thing, but hopefully it goes that way for you too!
