So I have a state tax offset from the lovely state of Ohio that I haven’t lived in for 18 years, long story… but I called the offset line and we have 1 offset and that’s with them, anyone with experience on how long it takes for the irs to pay them from my refund? My transcripts have not updated and wmr just lost bars to “still processing” could they still be working on it? Any insight would be great! I know they took and transferred out back federal taxes owed that’s in the transcripts but I still have a good amount that is supposed to be refunded to me this year. Should wmr be showing this? My process date is 03/04

I think WMR shows offset after return has been approved. My first year experiencing one for an over payment of unemployment.F/A on 2/17 checked WMR the next morning had 1 bar with tt152.Stayed that way all week till it updated overnight sometime to the 2nd bar with ddd of 2/27 & tt203 whiche is for an offset!

I also had an offset, now I’m being told im under review. No one can tell me what for, I am very confused at this point. I filed jan 28, accepted jan 29. Had path mesaage until feb 16, switched to take action 1541. Found out I was an offset with illinois from 2010. Got that straightened out, called irs yesterday was told im now under review, may get a letter but may not. If anyone has any insight they can share please do! Thanks in advance for any help!

IRS doesn’t handle those offsets. Federal
Treasury handles it and state debts are not subject to the same collection laws as private debts. Once the irs sends the info to the treasury, they’ll offset it and send you the remainder. Adds 1-2 days delay usually.

I’m not entirely sure that they are allowed to collect an 18 year old debt. the state of Illinois has been trying to offset our Federal refund since 2016 for a supposed 2011 tax debt, the offset has not been allowed by the IRS . We haven’t lived in Illinois for several years. I don’t know that this will happen for you, and I have never been able to get a straight answer as to why it has been disallowed. I had 2 offsets this year, one from Illinois, the same one they have been trying, and 1 from Nevada. My transcripts and WMR both show my full refund amount, even though I have TT203 on WMR. My transcripts do not show the offset code. This has been a strange year for the IRS though.
