      I called the offset line and dept of Ed came up. Said it could be offset. Did not get a letter from anyone. And called the number said that it could be but nothing yet. And no wage garnishments have went through either. Do you think it will be off set? Called IRS and the rep said everything looked fine and didn’t see anything but I still feel very uneasy about it. Any others have that happen?

            Updates? Did you all get your refunds or were they offset? I have a code 846 on my transcript with no offset code….

              @Tessa- I was in the same situation as Justin and I had no luck. They took my entire refund. Yesterday, WMR said it was “sent” with my full amount and when I checked again this morning, it had updated to 0 and with the message about my refund being applied to a past debt.

              Annoyed that I was not notified of a potential offset or even that I had some loans in default but I figure that’s their tactic to get our money. I just applied for consolidation on the loans that are in that status and am hoping once it’s approved, I can try to get my refund back.

              Anyone else have updates? This is the first time I’ve ever been in this position so if someone else has had past experience with getting their refund back after loan consolidation was approved and is also single like me without kids or a spouse, I’d love to hear how you did it. Doesn’t seem like there’s many options out there for us in these situations.

                  I can’t get my transcripts online. I sent for them quite awhile ago and have not received them yet. I also was to call a collection agency after I called the doe. Here’s to hoping we see a ddd soon!!

                    @sayitlikeitis

                    The offset says it’s from the department of education however when I called they told me to call the collection agency.

                    Would I see an offset code on my transcript? Because I have the normal 846 code for ddd

                      @Harm: If I’m understanding your post correctly, i just wanted to let you know that it is against the law for any company/business/person, etc. to take a past due debt, or collection you might owe, from a federal refund due to you. The ONLY debt that may be taken out of your federal return is a federal debt, a state debt (like unpaid state taxes), child support which is in arrears, or department of education (like student loans in default.) Also, you will receive a letter from the IRS informing you of this prior to your refund being sent out, and WMR should (emphasis on should) reflect a TT 203. Hope this helps! Good luck to you!!!

                        🤚 and was told it’s 50/50 but the doe has nothing about an offset😭
                        And the company I have a payment plan with said they did not get a certification notice. So he said he doesn’t think so…I have code 846 for deposit. It is frustrating not knowing🤦🏽‍♀️. I’ll call my bank on Wed or Thurs too see if they have any pending deposits…I’ll continue to pray against it.
