Has anyone had experience when you call the offset number an offset from the previous year and amount taken shown? There was nothing else shown as open offsets, but I don’t know why my previous offset would still show. It was for a student loan and i’ve since been on a repayment schedule. Hoping no offset this year. Any insight?

I know for me last year, it didn’t show an offset until the day before they took my refund. The offset line adds debts daily.
It’s normal to show the previous years info.
If you completed the 9 payments for the loan rehab, you should be good and not get offset.

Update: after 1.5 hrs on hold, dept of edu said the offset line is giving people “history” from prev offsets. Mine said 2017. He showed nothing for 2018. However, my husband now shows dept of edu for unknown amount. Crap.

I just called for offsets and it said from Feb 2017? I’m totally worried now and on hold with Dept of Education.

Yes I had the same experience when I called the tax offset line today. It states my 2017 offset info, amount and who it was owed to then immediately after states “no offsets found for you social security number”. I’m glad someone else had the same experience as it is hope for us :-) I also went through a rehab program for student loans last year & I completed that about 4 months ago. I have been making payments to the company that took over the rehabed loan since.

Yes thank you! It said one offset and the amount taken and date from last year. Then it said no other offsets found containing your social or something similar! Good news I hope!!

Yes. It still says my offset amount from 2015 and 2016. It will tell you if you have an offset this year. It will say something like 1 offset found for your social security number and give you the information for who to contact if you have one still. Hope that helps and made sense.
