So I had an offset for student loan it was on the offset line . I called the dept of education defer it .. and they said I was good . Offset was still reported though to offset line. I got code 203 and my offset is off the offline line now . Does that mean the took the money that was report even if I got in a deferment ?

Is there a code for offset?

I think I figured out my offset. I needed help with my rent back in 2016 and the state gave me a loan towards it. That may be it.

Mine also said I had an offset. I was approved by TurboTax for an advance but denied by the card issuer so that may play into it

I’m just hoping it’s a glitch like others are saying in other posts… crossing my fingers 🤞🤞🤞 because I have no offsets either but getting that code

I called the number but it said we have no offsets. I don’t understand this. Anyone with insight?

I’m hearing that if you took out a refund advance from your tax preparer that it will show offset. We got a $700 advance back in November. Would that trigger an offset message? My transcript is totally clean. All good codes with an 846 for Wednesday.

I finally got in to look at transcripts. All the codes are 150,806,766,766,846. There was nothing about 203 or anything stating that it was reduced. Same as last year. Still nothing on the hotline either for option 1 or 2. But I just thought…I did opt in to take my hrb fees out of my refund so would that be a possible reason for the 203 this morning on the wmr?

@brian77
The 26th, the offset will NOT hold up the remaining balance of your refund. I didn’t have to check prompt 1, bc I knew it was for student loans and I had health insurance and in Florida we don’t pay state taxes. But they’ll take what’s owed and send the rest. -
February 22, 2020 at 10:22 am #4368137So Confused
@brian call this number it will tell you the amount check both with prompts 1 & 2

@brian77 2/26 and my tax lady told me I’ll get it 2/26 they’ll take whatever they’re taking and the remaining balance will be sent to my bank (bank of America) they’ll take they’re money before they send the deposit. You’ll see the remaining balance of ur return 2/26

I got an offset message this morning. My transcript does not indicate any offsets and I have an 846 code for 2-26. WMR says to call by March 2nd if I haven’t received refund. WHEN I WILL GET MY DEPOSIT? The 26th or March 2nd? My electric gets cut off 2/28 so it really really matters

My refund amount is way more than what is owed. I’ve had offsets before I just can’t remember if the refund date changes or if it hold its up. The 3400$ will pay everything owed to my student loans

@michelle check prompt 2 when it asked if you want to check for offset blah blah blah hit 1 don’t choose 2 for personal whatever it says. That’s where I found mine

IF YOU DON’T HAVE AN UPDATE ON WMR then check the IRS WEBSITE!! I checked mine and no update, still “processing” “tt152”. So I went to the website and MY BARS WERE BACK 😳 And I was APPROVED 🙌🏽 DDD 2/26, And it says no later than March 2. I had an offset of $46.51 from the Dept. Of Ed

I didn’t have an offset this year but I have had an offset in previous years for student loans. Both times it said refund approved and for the whole amount. One year when I was able to check my transcripts, it even showed an 846 code but once the DD date passed, it updated to show the offset. They took everything both times.
Last year I had an offset with my state return because of health insurance premium. They took partial my state refund. Not federal

I got the offset message this morning and then it said if you do not recieve your deposit by March 2and then call. I have been going around with the state of Ohio for 2 years. However, they have never touched my federal before, they off set my state which settled the debt, no letter, and when I call the number it says there are no offsets with my SS# and my husband’s (I’ve been calling since the beginningof January to make sure). So…wth…

So I checked the other option and it is taking the offset that NYS already took from my State refund, how can they both take money for same offset???

I have a state offset. How long will it take to release the rest of my refund to me
-
February 22, 2020 at 7:50 am #4367740Target
FURTHER: @Jackie. You need to come to some sort of arrangement, this way you’ll still receive tax refund minus whatever amount agreed upon. Also, have your wages been garnished? i.e I owe/d the Government, my wages are garnished every month, but only $200 is taken out of my state every yr I keep allll the rest. It’s best to handle it so you’re not under duress constantly or once a yr.

February 22, 2020 at 7:43 am #4367731Target
@$$$, How about this yr?
-
February 22, 2020 at 7:41 am #4367727Target
@Jackie, if the owed amount is greater than refund amount, no, you will not. Unfortunately. Sorry!

February 22, 2020 at 6:21 am #4367586
@So Confused I had to check both option one and two to find out I have an offset. Mine was on option two which I think said something about personal consumer and something else. I didn’t realize local agencies could take your federal I thought it was only state. It’s ok though at least that will be one less debt on me. I am just glad it was only for $421.

I check my mail all the time so I have no clue.
🤷🏽♀️ Oh well it’s fine for them to take it I just wanted to see if the transcript will show it since it gave me the DDD and the refund amount. Thanks guys for answering and if anyone knows about the transcript please let me know. -

February 22, 2020 at 6:10 am #4367565So Confused
My offset was paid from my State return. My transcript shows NO code 203 and the refund amount is correct. Does this nonsense just a formality in case my State DIDN’T cover the offset???

@ Ashley one year they sent me a bill for an offset 4 month before I filed. Any chance you missed a letter?

I never received an offset letter either but I do call the offset line and they claim I owe $421 to a local agency. Does this usually delay your tax return I have never had an offset for federal.

Yea I did and it said I had one to my shock but I’m like ok cool that’s fine. I was just wondering why I never received any notice like your suppose to get then to see if on my transcript it will tell me on there because it has a ddd of 2/26 but it shows I’m getting my full refund. Some plays I was reading some people said on their transcript the dd showed the amount after the offset.

@ Ashley Did you call the offset hotline?800) 304-3107 option 1 and 2?

Question someone help! I never received any letter stating I had an offset. When my WMR updated this morning it got approved but stated it might be less to pay a balance which I had no idea about. That’s fine if I have an offset but am I suppose to receive a letter? And also does anyone know if your transcript will tell you that info because on mine it tells me the DD date but it has my full refund owed to me and no amount of what the balance is after the offset.
