I live in Kentucky and I know I have a medical bill that I’m paying on that shows up on the offset hotline. I called today to see if my refund had processed bc it’s been three weeks. I was told that it hasn’t but she would walk it through and process it manually since it’s been 3 weeks. She did that and verified my direct deposit information. Does this mean I may swerve the offset or is that done after it’s professed?

Call the offset line if it describes an offset then it is towards your return. It should give you information on the collection agency it would be worth following through with contacting them and seeing what you could do to prevent the offset.
Ive seen where others mentioned a hardship that can be filed but i am not sure where that is on the irs website.
My experience was from department of education offsetting my return for my husbands student loan. I amended my years return with a form called injured spouse that shows my income is seperate my husbnds and should not be taken from his debt from before we were even married.

Yes. It was. :( I just didn’t know if it would be different since the computer didn’t process it and a person did while I was on the phone. She told me it should update within a week and she verified my deposit info and didn’t mention the offset, but I know one was there. Just didn’t know if that could bypass it.

Was it from a hospital visit? If so then they are permitted to grab that cash.

Adding to say she didn’t mention anything about an offset.
