Hello this is the first time I’m turning to this forum for anything other than regular IRS questions
This is about an Offset We received our letter in February and we were happy to have the remainder of my other half’s return for the first time ever! He owed less past due child support than his total return amount.
We received that leftover portion. And the numbers match ( treasury letter and deposited amount)
But what child support applied was $400 less than the amount held by the treasury?
Where do you suppose the difference is? It hasn’t appeared in the bank?
We have continued to make dcs payments until all the agencies communicated and officially closed the case.
The long and short of this is
They held enough to pay off his child support but didn’t apply it all.
Today we owe about 200 bucks in child support with about $400 missing from the held amount that could have been applied but wasn’t.
      Anyone been through something similar?

          That’s a thought i hadn’t thought about thank you!
It just seems odd they wouldn’t have taken enough to the the balance to zero. I am hoping something with an explanation will show in the mail.

I’ve never been in this situation, but could it be the agency that administers the child support payments holds back some as ‘fees’?

Any thoughts? I can’t get through I did try the number on the letter.
