Hi:
I received a notice of deficiency for 2018. I have until May 11 to appeal to the Tax Court.
I partially agree with their determination, but can fix the issues through an amended tax return.
Questions:
1. Can I reply to the notice and file an amended return?
2. Secondly, I am just about to file my 2019 taxes. I expect a refund.
a). Since I have until May 11 to respond to the tax court, does it mean all collection activity will start after a tax bill is sent.
b). If I were to file now, would my refund be seized to pay for the deficiency (even if I didn’t receive a tax bill).
Thanks in advance – PS
