It is my own fault for getting a dam* title loan in the first place, but my late wife of 17 years commited suicide leaving me with our two boys to raise alone. I dropped to one income and thought since my truck was paid off, I’d get a title loan to help pay for everything and pay it back. DON’T EVER GET a TITLE LOAN, folks! You’ll never get it paid back. EVER. Just a warning. I’ve paid and paid interest only payments of $600 a month for many months, now, and the $5,000 principal never goes away. Ever. All I can say is that I buried my wife of 17 years with it. That’s it.

So, recently, I just let it go and they’re planning to settle for $3,000 or take the truck by the 22nd. Idk if I will get my refund by then or not. Anyone know if these title companies (mine is CashMax) are flexible at all or not? As far as extending the repossession date if I wouldn’t get my refund by then?

Thank you in advance for any help or answers. I really appreciate your time for reading this and trying to help out if you can. Jason

Man you all are just awesome. This forum is great. Thank you so much for all the advice and info. The truck is sentimental and I’m really trying to keep it for my boys and I. Jason

Hide it until you get your money. I have a relative that gets title pawns every single year. She stopped paying on it over 4-5 months ago and it has been hiding in someone’s garage since. Not sure how true, but she states she will only owe the amount she borrowed.

Yeah, Steve, I should’ve done an advance with TurboTax. I had that option (like paying for their tax fees with refund money). I probably would’ve gotten it a bit earlier if I did, but I didn’t. I will check if anyone would even give me a “reasonable fee” loan. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Jason

Based on when you filed and your tra scripts being complete I think you’ll have it be the 22nd. If not, is there a local church that can help? If nothing else park it in a garage fir a few days til you get it, they can’t enter your garage without your permissio to take it and they wouldnt come right on the 22nd anyway.

Jason, I’m very sorry for your loss.
I wish I could believe what people are saying when deposits are going to come through. Unfortunately there isn’t anything solid that is supporting that. This tax year is all wonky.
I would call them, I know it is humbling, and people can be judgy, but communication is key.
                  Best wishes.

Thank you for your replies. I was accepted on the 29th of Jan. My WMR message changed to processing, but transcripts still have codes 150, 766, and 768 only. So, Idk? Cycle code 20190605.

I understand, however, I wasn’t looking for legal advice, just thought someone may have gone through something similar with a title loan company and wanted to know their experience. I’m just really in a mess at the moment with two children to raise alone and both parents in their 80’s and in bad health needing assistance, too. Life is unreal sometimes. Don’t understand it. Anyways, thanks for the help and your time. Jason

Btw My bro received a letter stating he owes 5k lmao 😂 they were putting the interest every month. We only borrowed 2,500. His car isn’t even worth that

We did TitleMax on my brothers car and we didn’t realize it was only paying Internet not principal we stopped. My brothers car is all messed up it’s been over a year not paying lol I don’t think they’ll take his. My mom got one that actually paid the principal and interest but idk the name. Point. Do not ever do a title loan.

First, I am so sorry. I couldn’t imagine.

They want the money over the truck. If you keep the line of communication open with them you should be okay. Let them know what you’re waiting on. Once you get a deposit date shown on Where’s my Refund let them know that date. If it ends up being a date after the 22nd then I would print it showing the date so they know.

The title loan place should be understanding knowing what’s been going on and the IRS is behind. Just try giving them a “heads up” before the 22nd to see if they could possibly give you another week.

When did you file? What is the status of your refund showing? I filed and was accepted since 1/28 and the update on Saturday took me to the message saying my refund is being processed. Prior years, I usually update on Wednesday for a due date on Friday. But the crazy part of it all is, my 21 days will be tomorrow.

I suggest you post on legal advice forums or contact a lawyer. This is not the place to get legal advice.
