I filed a simple return with no credits on 01/31 and was accepted that day. Tonight I updated to PATH message. How can this be when I didnt have any of the credits? I’ve never had a return take this long for me. Anyone else experience this issue?

Only 2 credits all under the PATH Act, those are EIC (Earned Income Credit) and ACTC (Additional Child Tax Credit). Education credits, housing credits nor any other credits are under PATH. It seems as though the IRS system is screwed up, like every year, for someone to update to the PATH message when they don’t have those credits. I’m not surprised though. I wouldn’t read too much into unless it stays that way and doesn’t change.

I thought that too so I went and looked at my filed return. No credits filed of any kind.

Its very possible you guys got the earned income credit and didnt realize it. I filed with TT and it added it by itself and when they do it blink and you’ll miss it. I usually don’t even qualify for eic but I did this and last year. Funny thing is I didnt file right away last year and I got my refund in like a week.

I do not have access to my transcripts online. I know for a fact I didn’t file credits. I am hoping it changes tonight, if not I’ll just have to wait until the 20th when my 21 days are up.

That’s odd. If you’re sure you didn’t file the credits then it’s probably just a fluke. I would check your tax return transcripts. They will show exactly what’s going on

My boyfriend filed 2/7 with no credits and today he updated to path. The government is up to no good. Just my thoughts

VERY frustrating considering family members who used the same tax service and filed AFTER me have already gotten theirs back. Ridiculous.

I filed on the 27th, was on one bar accepted up until last night, woke up this morning and was updated to the PATH message… But I also have filed NO credits or deductions, so PATH does not apply to me! Very frustrating.

My husband also filed a simple return and updated to the PATH message today. Never had that before. Filed 1/27 accepted 1/28..
This has been the longest he has waited for his refund with no credits. -

@Dontay, EIC and AOTC are indeed not the same credit, but both fall under the Path Act law. There are a number of crefits that fall under this law. You could contact TT and ask, or, not sure if you’ve access to your filing forms. The info will be there. The thing about these efile, they will sometimes automatically add the form for you, by the info provided. TT definitely does this. The good, if so – you get a Tax break, therefore more money back. So, the wait will be worth it.
All the best to ya ..

@Dontay, did you go to a Tax Preparer?

I did not read through it, not sure if or whom would fall under this Credit. So, I’ve no idea if that law has changed and is no longer part of Path? Just shedding light on it being a possibility!

Only child credits fall under PATH not educational. Even the girl on this post said she called the irs And was told that education credits do not fall under EIC or ACTC which is for PATH. I believe it’s just a generic PATH message

Agreed

Which falls under the Path Act.

I seen that too, or a pending deposit with there banks. Nothing for me though, just PATH that I should NOT have.

From what I read on others post is that a direct deposit date should be showing up

I hate to say it but I’m glad there’s others out there like me lol. I didn’t file for an education credit, EIC, child credit, nothing.

I’m in the same boat Justin. I didn’t claim no credits but education, nothing dealing with a child credit. So I wanna know what’s going on too?

Just so you know you’re not alone, I’m in the same boat as you.
-

Absolutely, will do. If anyone else has this issue please post so I know I’m not alone lol

Indeed it is, Justin.
21 days, then you call.
Let us know how it goes, please!

And btw, I never moved not once since filing and receiving the initial 1 bar acceptance. Until tonight when I surprisingly moved to PATH for no reason other than maybe a glitch with WMR. Which seems very plausible this year.
-
February 15, 2020 at 5:13 am #4351102Justin
For sure, I will wait until at least the 20th to give them a call. That’s my 21 day mark
-
February 15, 2020 at 5:11 am #4351101Target
There are many reasons for waiting, most important is these (what maybe be a simple computer glitch), things seem to work themselves out without your needing to do anything but wsit patiently. If possible? !
Again,
All the best, Justin. -

Hmmm. That is odd. I have heard of people, w none of the qualifying credits, updating to PATH. That is why I believe there’s something fishy happening at the IRS. Many, like yourself, who had no credits, dependents, didn’t move, filed single w a simple return, w no change from previous years, should have received a dd, ddd by now but they are stuck w Pathers.
My advice, wait before calling the IRS. Sorry I’ve not been more helpful. This one’s beyond me.
All the best anyway!
