Hello. Wonder if anyone here can help me. I helped my sons girlfriend file her taxes last year. She only made around $11k.
We sent a paper copy to the IRS in Fresno Cal. on July 2nd. 2020. she was due a $4oo refund. wheres my refund has no info on her at all. She hasn’t received her $600 2nd.stimulus payment either. My question is, Can She file her taxes for 2020 ( to keep her the loop for these stimulus payments), even though she has no idea what happened to her 2019 return? Thanks!

You can still E File 2020 successfully. At the end of tax preparation while choosing to E-File. when you have to enter your prior years AGI, Check the box that you did not file a return last year. ( Because as of now, to the IRS you have not. Until your mail is processed). So, I checked no return for previous year, entered my license information and it was accepted by the IRS a few hours later.

In 2017 they held my hubs refund until 2019! He continued to file 2018, 2019 taxes and got them.

I’m not sure what’s going on with her 2019 taxes but I do recommend using freetaxusa. It’s only $12.95 to file both state and federal. I filed on 3/2 using them and I had my federal refund in my account by 3/5 and my state by 3/8. I highly recommend using them.

The IRS is still working on mailed paper returns for the 2019 filing year. She can still file 2020, though, I’m sure. It might help to use a tax preparer, like H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt.
