My ga tax center shows a negative account balance online. What does this mean?

So, has ANYONE actually received their refund AFTER seeing it in green on their site?? Just curious….someone mentioned to me a possible past IRS debt or even child support .. (???)

Mine is for my exact refund amount, also showing as a negative (minus in front of dollar amount) and also in green. Message at the top states, ”
Your tax return has been received and is being processed. Please allow 30 business days to complete processing. An updated status may be available in 15 business days.” I filed mine on April 15, 2016 this year. My past experience with the State of Georgia has always been speedy, but, yes, this year they seem to be lagging behind. -

Filed in Feb and I am still waiting on my return and it is almost May. I have called the GA tax center three times and get the same response each time. “We had to validate something on your return, please wait 30 days” Well I am sick and tired of waiting!

The person that did our taxes states that the state of GA is using drastic meslures due to many cases of fraud. We were told they we would need to call in and verify some information before our refund would be rleleased. They would ask some questions only we could answer. I have been checking the web randomly and the message just changed today to call in. We filed on March 19, 2016. I will update this blog as soon as we call. Stay tuned.

Talked to a representative and he said it takes 30 to 45 days and the reason it seems slow is because they do not count the holidays or the weekends, so whenever yours was received, count the days minus the holidays and weekends

I also live in Georgia, I’ve been checking mine everyday, mine has updated to call the Georgia department of revenue and choose option 3 as well, I am on hold.. Have been on hold for 50 minutes.. It has been exactly 30 days since I filed my taxes.. So frustrating!! I use to live in Kentucky and I never had this problem or waited this long!!!

My Ga account online is showing a NEGATIVE GREEN balance, which I have read is a good thing. My only concern is, That is not my refund balance, its almost $300 more than what I was told I would be getting back? What is going on?

I called them yesterday. I told them that my co-worker, who filed on Feb 3rd, received her refund on Feb. 18th and that I was still waiting and I wanted to know what is wrong with my return. She basically called me a liar, said that she was 100% sure that my co-worker did not receive hers. My co-worker showed me her bank account. Also, my son as a DDD for Feb. 22nd and he filed on Feb. 5th. There is something wrong with my return obviously, but she tells me that there isn’t, that it is still processing. She also contradicted herself by telling me that they are processed in the order received, which is obviously not true.

I have heard many different stories, but its not the amount of your refund causing a delay. All my family members are waiting and amounts range from under $100 to $800.
One rep told someone out right Ga holding money to earn as much interest as possible!
Many states are holding returns to match with the w2s employers send in. Maybe, GA is doing the same
The word from GA is that they are taking extra precautions due to the rise in fraud.

I agree this can’t all be security I have been a taxpayer in Georgia for last 25 years and it’s not an astronomical amount I’m receiving, but still want to know why is it taking so long. I too have the negative green balance amount I guess it’s a case of hurry up and wait. Funny how they 2 seconds to snatch your money if you owe, but an infinity to pay what you’re owed. I hope all gets their funds really soon.

The negative means a credit owed to you, this is a good thing.
@Brandy BYou need to actually call and speak with a representative. I’ve been reading other post about GA and the delays and I keep seeing if you have a message directing you to call GA with the ext3 option that you really do need to call and its not just a generic message. I believe it was said this message means they need you to ID verify.
Now, I could be wrong this is just what I have been reading. I’d go ahead and check on Tuesday. Maybe once you verify they will send you your money.
My GA message still says processing allow 6-8 weeks….ugh!

Ok, I’m in and mine shows a negative too. Which is my refund amount. I wonder if GA is low on funds. This cannot all be security.

Anybody in ga get this message it just changed to this this morning Your return has been received, and it is currently being processed. Please contact the Georgia Department of Revenue at 1- 877-GADOR11 (1-877-423-6711) option 3 to speak with a Representative.

That should mean that has been processed. Unfortunately, a large number of us are still waiting for DDD with our amount showing in the system for at least two weeks
