For hardships after a Department of Education offset
      Posted by Maryaifl
@Stressed out: you can file a financial hardship request with the department of education.

      Form is here: https://myeddebt.ed.gov/

After that, get the loans consolidated together under an income based repayment plan. You can also defer for economic hardship if you can prove it (if on food stamps or other assistance, you qualify)

I know it’s scary to call them but they really aren’t that bad. They try to work with you. I’m dealing with an offset myself and they told about the form to get my refund back. They said it takes a few weeks after they receive it.

      Hope this helps.

          Im interested also

My loans were transferred to a new collection agency 1/03/16. They were transferred to government agency..
They are still open and it says no missed payments on the transfer

I found all that on my credit report.. They did not inform me of this debt being transferred or about establishing a payment.

Worried it may affect refund.. I was going to call Monday to set up payment plan..

Called offset line and it says nothing.. No offsets.. Still worried they might show up..

Any advice or experience would be great..

We don’t have the best credit.. Would we call the department of education or the agency who has the debt?
