I’ve been waiting for this 1099G and I’ve called and they said it would be done by Jan 31st. Now they sent a message that they wont be sent out until the end of Feb due to errors they made.

This is crazy and I need to file ASAP. Is there any way I can file without a 1099G?

If I add up all the payments and enter it in my freetaxusa software under the 1099G area, will that work?

Any advice on how I can resolve this issue is appreciated.

      Thank you.

I’m not a tax pro but I have personally had to do this before without issue and the amounts matched the 1099-G that ended up coming later. The only concern here is that they stated there was an error. If anything in your portal is incorrect you may run into issues.

I’m unsure if Michigan is different than where I live (I live in CT), but I don’t see why you couldn’t file without it. All you would need is the Department of Labor’s federal and state identification numbers (which can be found on a prior year’s 1099-G), the total amount of your payments, the total amount of state and federal taxes withheld, and the total amount you had to repay if you were overpaid benefits.

I filed a 1099-G last year and my tax preparer strongly encouraged me to wait for it and I did, but ask your tax preparer if you could go ahead and file and then do an amendment later.

                I googled this….

What if I already filed my taxes and forgot a 1099G?

                this was the answer…

Generally, you can expect the IRS to impose a late payment penalty of 0.5 percent per month or partial month that late taxes remain unpaid. … If the 1099 income you forget to include on your return results in a substantial understatement of your tax bill, the penalty increases to 20 percent, which accrues immediately.

Were you able to figure this out? Because I need to file asap myself and I didn’t have taxes taken out. My tax preparer is making me wait on my 1099 but I know exactly how much I was paid so I don’t understand.
