Just called HRB to see if our refund is anticipated or pending on our EmeraldCard and the dude on the phone refused to give me any info because I wasn’t my husband, “the account holder”. Uhhh, we filed Married Joint so we are BOTH the damn account holder! I even told him such and he said to call back when my husband was here to handle it.

WTF, is it 1950 again and I didn’t get the memo??!

I’ve gotten deposits into my actual accounts the last few years (self filed), but when we used tax services and prepaid cards it always wound up being in my husband’s name because he was listed first on the return.

Heck, currently work retail. Half the time emerald cards don’t even have names on them just ‘H&R customer’ or ‘Emerald Member’.

Should they be in both parties names? Yup. But it’s easier to just do it as the primary on the return so that s what happens 90% of the time in my experience.

Shouldnt her name be on the card as well given that many pre-paid cards will not accept a joint refund without both parties names on the bank account?

I don’t know, I use prepaid but my own card I established years ago, not the ‘pop your refund on here cards’

I could imagine this being a logistics nightmare if her name isn’t on the card and she goes to use it for a big purchase.

It is not in just his name. It was opened by both of us, for OUR tax refund. Hence my confusion.

people want it both ways….unreal ! She will be the first to complain if fraud occurs on that card!

If you’re calling about an emerald account in your husband’s name it doesn’t matter what your tax filing status is, it just matters whose name is on the account. It’s basic fraud prevention, not sexism
