Can someone please give me guidance….. I filed my 2016 taxes on 1/26/17, and accepted same day. My WMR never updated, so I called the IRS on 2/21/17 to find out that my 2016 return is being held because I did not file 2014 taxes. Well, I just mailed in the tax forms for 2014. I will owe for 2014, but have more than enough to cover it with my 2016 refund. Does anyone know about how long it will take to release the remaining amount for 2016??????

@Lorin. I am hoping your refund will be soon! Maybe you should try to contact the Taxpayer Advocate? No updates for me either which is starting to get annoying. Good Luck!

Still no date for me I’m still stuck on the 9001 message I’m going to have to try and call the electric company install them just a little bit longer tomorrow I was really hoping for a date yesterday so I could commit to a date when I call. I think the code went up Monday or Tuesday if it doesn’t update in the next few days I swear I’m just going to cry.

It does give me hope seeing a couple of deposits starting to filter in for people in this group though thank you for keeping me sane during this process

I do have a number that is the direct line to the people who actually process the returns for the cp63. They seem to have accurate information

@kelli and @vina… I too had the “9001” since Monday morning.

@keli Yes there’s a few us on here who have gotten the same code as you. When I spoke to the IRS about the 9001 code and why was t on my WMR page, the just told me it was related to our CP63 letter and to disregard the code. 😒 I still have no WMR update yet and I started getting the 9001 code for a couple of weeks now.

I now have a code 9001 on my “wheres my refund”. I’m on hold with them now. Hopefully that means they’ve entered my 2012 and i’ll get something soon. Has anyone else gotten this code????

@Vina – Yes, i’m hoping something will get updated. This has caused a HUGE financial burden on me. I spoke to someone earlier this week and she gave me a number to the actual place where the paper returns go. But she told me she would note on my file that it had caused me a financial burden by having this delayed and referring me to TAC. But then told me someone would be calling me in 5-7 days. As of today, still nothing. I have received money back EVERY year, I dont know why they would think 2012 was any different. And I had NO idea they hadn’t been filed. I’m going to attempt to call the other number the lady gave me again, but last time I stayed on hold for 10 minutes and had to hang up. A lot of people on here seem to have had the same problem, but managed to get their money within a few weeks. I filed almost 2 months ago and i’m still waiting for my 2016 returns. The IRS received by 2012’s on March 4th, but still dont have them in their system???? I’m sooooo frustrated.

                                  Thanks Mary!

I’m confused though, I’m not getting my refund from my past return because it’s over the time limit. I’m checking my current return not past. I’ve seen people post they got a DDD on WMR after CP63 and never mentioned a 9001 issue I wish I knew the method to their madness. It’s been about a month for me so I’m hoping for my money soon :-)

Thank You for your information! My 4th week would be next week since it was received by the IRS so that bring me some hope that it will be coming soon.

if this helps anyone.. I had the 1541 with cp63 letter the whole process took me four weeks by the time i faxed my prior return to receiving my 2016 return. Also I am getting a refund for prior year as well and they only mail those. My prior year tax return transcript updated on a saturday to refund released. WMR will give you the message saying they can’t provide any info on your refund because its a prior year return. I called IRS on Monday and said check will be mailed on Friday. That is the only day they mail checks they said.

                                            Kelli..

I have read that the CP63 notices are sent if the IRS thinks that you owe them money…go figure! I guess if they owe you they don’t want you to know. They just go by the income info without factoring in dependents and such so it’s easy for it to appear that someone owes I guess.

I also would have been due almost 3K that is lost because they released my refunds just fine until the limitations ran out then the very next tax season after that they decided to send the notice. I had an offset back then though so I never knew they were missing anything. Had I not had the offset I def would have known because I would have been watching for my refund

It’s no wonder they didn’t enter my return when I mailed it years ago if they are telling you if it shows delivered it is there “somewhere” what kind of system is that? It sounds like they have a dept, just for back taxes that is separate from current tax filings, why it should take 11 weeks when a regular mailed return is 6 is beyond me. I had some hope that I would be seeing some movement this week but that is pretty much gone. I changed my paperwork so they barely get any of my weekly checks because of all this. With my dependents I will still get a refund, I am done loaning them money that I have to jump through hoops to get back when the time comes

If the IRS wants to cut down on calls they should really rethink what goes up on WMR. If I sent in everything needed for my CP63 notice they shouldn’t update WMR to some random code with a number to call resulting in panic that something else is now wrong. How hard is it to properly note that letter CP63 was issued instead? Just Ugh annoying!

I called the number just to be sure. The rep verified my info and then asked me if I received the letter they sent. Of course that made me nervous, can she not see that I sent in my past return so obv I got the letter? So then I worry did they not receive it. Basically she told me there is a number on the CP63 notice that I should call with any questions on the notice or the status of my refund. I am sitting on hold as we speak, I want to make sure everything was received and is in process before the IRS gives me another heart attack

They must think it’s some fun joke to put a code on my refund page so I call sit on hold forever just to be directed somewhere else to hold again. Putting the CP63 number may have been a better idea but I have learned this year that the IRS has no concept of customer service whatsoever. I never even got anything on WMR showing a delay or notice was sent out so I waited until the week of the 27th even though my 21 days passed due to the path act and wasted time. I NEED my refund badly it should not take this long to plug in some numbers on my past return and give me my money. I feel so negative right now sorry I am just so frustrated with this and now I cant even use WMR, its been rendered useless for me :-(

@Lorin Don’t worry that same page 9001 code came up on my WMR too. I called the IRS about it last week and they told me it was nothing and it was related to our CP63 letter. The rep said to give it a couple weeks for them to process our returns and hopefully our 2016 refund will be released. Hope this helps.

WMR updated but not to anything I wanted to see. This morning it now says they can’t provide any info on my refund and shows that 9001 code with a number I can call if I have any questions. I read online that means someone accessed WMR with a different SS number which can happen with married filing joint but I am HOH the only one on the return and the only person who would try and access it so that makes NO sense. I thought if you put in a different SS you would just get an error message and need to try again anyhow?

Whats interesting to me is if I do WMR and put in different amounts as the expected refund it still pulls that up with my ss and filing status but it shows an expected refund of whatever random amount I put in. I thought to bring anything up at all it had to be exact?

Totally confused on what is going on

I’ve ready everyone’s posts and some of them are great! I filed by 2016 return on February 1, 2017. On February 24th, we received a letter (CP63) saying they had no record of a 2012 tax return. I was married and the time and had NO idea my ex hadn’t filed our taxes. I immediately contacted someone and they were sent off 2/27/17. I tracked the certified mail receipt and it was delivered on 3/4/17.

No one can tell me anything at the IRS. I was told that they don’t have record of it in their system yet, but if I have confirmation that it is there, then it is there somewhere. And AFTER they enter it into their system, it could take another 11 weeks to process.

My question is – I was due to get money back in 2012. I won’t get that back now because of the statute of limitations, but oh well. I was due money back in 2016. HOW LONG IS IT REALLY TAKING THE IRS TO RELEASE 2016 RETURNS????

We were really counting on this money to help me and my kids and get caught up on bills. I can’t really seem to get a straight answer anywhere.

Electric disconnect for next week and I’m busted so a refund date tomorrow would be such a relief

My tax advocate informed me this am that the 2011 taxes are done processing my husband owed $722 for back taxes with penalties and interest they are taking out $1218 all together and the remainder of our refund has a scheduled ddd of 3/29!!!!! Thank you lord , have not updated on WMR but am assuming I will tomorrow morning 🙌🏻🙌🏻

She stated I have already managed through the hard part so it should go smooth sailing from her, she checked my husbands wages and w2 info for 2016 just to verify so they would not kick out our refund once the 2011s are done she said everything looks good and to just wait a few days she is monitoring it as we speak …. so hopefully !!!! If I may ask how much did you get penilized for your back taxes ? I understand if you do not want to disclose I was just trying to figure out if it is outrageous or not I have used a website to calculate but am unsure how accurate it is ?

Thank you for sharing your story Kelly I really appreciate it I have been considering contacting an advocate as well I have an electric shut off coming right up that I can’t pay for it I had made arrangements to pay in late February and of course that did not work out. I was hoping for some movement today but still nothing. I was totally blindsided by this letter I’ve always sent in my taxes, I never owe makes no sense not to so I really wish I knew what happened to my 2012 return. I learned probably more than I ever wanted to know about how the system works this year . After the big tax season rush I’m going to assume there’s a load for the rest of the year with not quite as much going on so why is it that the IRS is not sending out letters for over a year or in many cases like mine over three years ? Why is it that they can come back as many years later as they want but a taxpayer has a three-year cut off ? My personal opinion is they should take that downtime to check these things and send out letters within the year if they need anything or are missing anything that they show they should have so people can resolve them and if they don’t win the refund doesn’t come and they had a letter already well yeah that’s on them

Last night I was imagining this review department at the IRS offices I see it is one little guy behind the desk drinking his tea with a pile of returns. He checks the where’s my refund tool is is there’s a hold up on his own taxes but his peers will not tell him anything so he sits back down at his desk looks at the stack of paperwork that needs to be reviewed and laughs as he punishes everyone else

Filed 2016 return on 2/4/17. CP63 notice on 2/20. Faxed in 2015 taxes on 2/21. I owed 994.00 from 2015. I called the IRS SEVERAL times and was advised 6-12 weeks, Which I couldn’t stomach at that point. I reached out on the Tax Advocate hotline. I was assigned a TA on 3/13 and spoke with her on 3/17. She told me a update was scheduled to take place Sat. 3/18 and BEHOLD! I checked saturday and was advised its been approved (deducting what i owed for 2015) and would be sent to my bank on 3/22 and expect DD on 3/27 or before. Its coming!! I hope this helps shed light in some way :). Im not sure if the TA truthfully sped up the process of if it just processed as normal. I also apoligize in advance if my original response pop up randomly. GOOD LUCK!!

Hey guys Ive been watching this thread frequently and wanted to provide a update…. I file my 2016 return on 2/4/17 and it immediately said approved with Turbo Tax and processing with the IRS. For SEVERAL weeks my returned status showed …your tax return has been receieved and is currently being processed…while everyone around me has already got there returns deposited. I contacted the IRS a ton of times to be told its processing and allow it time until i got home on 2/21/17 to find a CP63 notice for my 2015 taxes. I immediately responded and faxed in my return in which i owed 994.00. I called a numerous amuount of times to verify it was received and was advised 9-12weeks for me to physically have my funds. (6-8weeks processing and 3-4 weeks to receive in my bank account). So after being told that 6 times or so lol i sucked it up. I continued to read these threads and came across the tax advocate services. I called the TA hotline stated that i was experiencing a hardship. They assigned me a tax advocate within my state (South Carolina). I called on 3/13 and spoke with my advocate on 3/17. She advised me she submitted the information to have my 2015 processed quicker and would check back with me within a week. She also stated were expecting another update on tomorrow (3/18) so we’ll see what happens. NO LIE I checked my refund status on 3/18 just for the heck of it and THERE IT WAS my bars came back saying my refund was approved (deducting what i owed from 2015 of course) and a message that my funds would be sent to my bank on 3/22 and expect DD on 3/27/17. IM sure the TA services had something to do with this quick process …I’m not sure..but i wish u guys the best of luck its truly been a damn nightmare… took about 3/4 weeks after they received my paperwork…oh also on 3/16-3/17 my refubnd status on the IRS website couldnt be located, as if i didnt file at all or they didnt have a record of me filing. Im sure this is apart of the process being they have to manually file it. I’ll update once funds have been received :). I hope this helps shed some light.

                                                                            • #4192411

Welp usual WMR letdown this morning for me. Today iI will be faxing in the form to request my 2012 transcript so I’ll be able to see soon hopefully if that is at least all entered in their system. If so I’ll know its close. I’m so nervous it won’t be

I understand that the IRS is super swamped but it’s really sad to see that they aren’t at all helpful when people call in concerned about their return. They put so much effort into their self help online maybe it’s time that effort goes into some real customer service live help and better WMR tracking so people wouldn’t have to call with concerns

I never even got an error code on WMR. The Path Act meant after my 21 days I didn’t call knowing week of the 27th was after that deadline a little notice on there would have helped me to know sooner to prepare. Their notice wanted money right away had I owed taxes, but I’ve learned a lesson this year big time! If I ever do owe I’m waiting until the very last day to file possible, they can wait. Not like they care but what else can a gal do

GL everyone on getting your money soon <3

Yeah I’m not sure what the deal with WMR is this year. Mine never even showed an error code or take action. I believe it did say still processing refund info when available now it’s is processing nothing else. I have heard of some refunds hitting without status changing but my account is still pathetic.

This season has been rough for many it would be so helpful if their online tool worked as intended but I guess I can’t have it all lol

                                                                                • #4192315

Called 3/13 and was told I failed to file 2013-which I was aware; there was a legal reason. went ahead and filed 2013 which netted a refund of $800. Faxed in same day.

WMR continues to reflect “Take Action” but I called today and was told both returns have been cleared for release-2016-2-3 weeks- 2013-6 weeks.

I am hoping for a sooner refund but the point is the WMR is static but there is activity so don’t get discouraged because the online tool may not reflect the accurate status of releases!

About how much was the penalty? I understand if you prefer to not disclose that info. I should have had a 3K refund for 2012 but they didn’t notify me that anything was missing until after the April 2016 cutoff so I have no clue what will happen. I didn’t sent the return certified mail, just regular and it never bounced back to me so it makes no sense why they do not have it in their system

No updates for me on WMR yet, I am going crazy

I had spoke to an IRS agent this morning because my WMR stated they “could not provide any refund information at this time” and I thought I had another issue or something. The agent told me that there was no other issue withholding my refund and that I just needed to wait at least weeks to get any further information. I filed on 1/30 and the IRS received my 2014 return on 3/08. Hoping to get updated info in a couple of weeks. Good Luck all.

WMR states I will receive my refund in my account on 3/22/17 no later than 3/27. They did penalize me for the late filing of my 2014 taxes, but I still came out okay. There is hope for those that had a CP63. all together, it took 11 weeks since filing on 1/26, -and 4 weeks since the issue was identified. I will let you know if I really get the money..

If I get one in the mail I’ll know that they filed the missing return and if they took my credits away like they probably did because it’s after 4/2016 yet the didn’t bother to inform me until Feb 2017. I have $2.00 to my name and I just want MY money. This has been the worst tear by far, and to think I I was excited because I resolved my loans and have no more offset :-(

I sent necessary paperwork in for 2014 to the IRS and state of Missouri as well. I sent all the paperwork in on 2/28/17. I received my state refund for 2014 on 3/10/17. I spoke the IRS yesterday and they said they have received my taxes for 2014, but could not give me the received date!!! She told me to wait another 6-12 weeks for any information regarding my 2016 hold. Hopefully WMR will update this weekend, and we will get our refund by next Wednesday. They should be able to take what I owe for 2014 out of my 2016 refund. I’m terrified to find out how much they say I owe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will keep everyone posted.

I received a CP63 notice saying that I did not file my 2014 return and my Refund for 2016 was being withheld. Sent in my missing return and was received at IRS on 3/8 (due date was 3/9) Tried to check my WMR but nothing new has changed so I will give a couple more weeks until I have to wait for 2 hours to speak to a representative. Hoping that it processes in 3 weeks like someone had mentioned. Sure am pretty ticked that they sent me this when I thought I had filed and they gave me a refund of $18. Hope everyone gets their refund soo as well. Good Luck!

I’m in the same boat. I really need my refund my electric is close to disconnect and my oil ran out. I expected my refund by the end of March but WMR kept the status of my return was received and in process. It still shows the same

I got a letter saying they were missing a 2012 return. I had a loan offset 2012 – 2015 so I sent my returns and that was that. I never checked WMR for money I wouldn’t get. I did need transcripts 2014 forward due to my daughter starting college so 2014/15 my refunds I know were processed. Also last year I filed a hardship and got most of my offset sent to me.

They gave me less than a week to send 2012 or they would calculate it for me yet they waited over 3 years to send me a notice. I had no clue anything was missing seeing my refund last year released with no issue. Them waiting to do this until Just after the deadline to claim a refund for that year had passed is shady to me. I went through my files and mailed in the return and forms I have saved for 2012. I have defendants there is no way they are calculating it for me at single no dependants when I’m HOH. With EIC and credits I show the return I sent was a refund of almost 3K that I thought would’ve just gone to my old loans for the offset. I included a letter and send everything right back in the mail. I didn’t see any fax options listed.

I am concerned that they will say since it’s past April 2016 the EIC and child tax credits won’t be counted which is bs because I sent all of this to them years ago. Without those credits I would owe $793.00 and who knows what penalties. Why is it they get a cutoff on refunds so that money is lost but they can issue my refunds for 3 years no notice of anything missing then send notification in 2017? It just isn’t right, if there was an issue their deadline to notify me should be before April of 16 latest.

So now my refund is on hold while this is resolved. I believe I sent everything in about 3 weeks ago so I hope they don’t take too long

I was just going to create a thread for people who had this problem to let them know my experience.

I filed 1/28 and was accepted same day. I’m a single mom and HoH so I have EITC and CTC. I received the PATH message on or about 2/9. It switched to processing on 2./18 with no bars.

On 2/22 I received a CP63 letter which was weirdly dated 2/29. I hadn’t filed in 2011 because I was on unemployment and didn’t owe taxes and the IRS wanted a 1040 for that year. I downloaded my unemployment form from my state for 2011 and filled out a 2011 1040 online for free. I sent it out the next morning via regular mail and the IRS received it on 3/3.

I checked my return and account transcript yesterday and the CP63 hold was released and I got an 846 on my account transcript with a date of 03-27-2017. I checked WMR today and it says “Refund Approved” and to expect my refund in to my account by 3/15.

I’ll update if anything changes but it only took about 3 weeks in all for the the IRS to process my missing return and release refund.

I have not been able to talk to anyone regarding my amended 2014 taxes. I received another cp63 letter stating that the IRS would file for me by 3/9. I mailed my amended 1040 form in on 2/28/17. I know that they should have received it by now, but no one knows anything….. I also had to file an amended 2014 for the state of Missouri as well. Please, anyone give advice… ALSO, HOW MUCH WILL THE PENALTY FOR LATE FILING BE?

I efiled and accepted by 1/29 even though I was claiming the child tax credit and eic. Checked the where’s my refund tool on 2/15 saying my return was being processed. I got the cp63 notice in the mail 2/22 saying my refund was being held for not filing 2012 tax return. I priority mailed my 2012 taxes in on 2/27.
