Just hung up with a very helpful IRS agent. I have been on processing message since the day I filed, the 24th of January. Decided to call today to see what’s up. I was transferred twice and the 3rd person I spoke with was very helpful.
At first she asked me how I filed. I told here electronically, so she checked the E-File system. Told me my return was no where to be found. My heart dropped. She told me to hold a sec while she looks elsewhere. She found my return in the errors processing file. Told me my return was flagged and pulled for an error the day I submitted it. I hadn’t told me my filing date, she told me when it was pulled and I confirmed that that was the date I filed. Anyway, she told me anything can flag an error, missing form, misspelled name, anything, but she could not tell me what flagged mine. She also said that most returns are either fixed and removed from the error system, or a letter must be sent out within 5 days of being pulled. She looked to see if a letter was sent to me, no letter was sent. She paused, said hmmmm, and told me to hang on a sec. She pulled a few more screens up and looked through a few things, asking me questions, and finally was able to tell me, my return was fixed, and processed. She then said my return was originally scheduled for seposit in the 10th. Another hmmmm, heard her talking to herself, saying ok, returns can;t go out until a week from this date, reurn processed and scheduled that date, finally she came back to me and said, that my return was scheduled for deposit on the 10th, but the PATH act has it being held for a week from a certain date, and it was scheduled for the 22nd. She also said, things are a little bumpy, so if it’s not in the bank or WMR hasn;t updated by next week with a different date, to call back.
In the end, I have been and still am on the processing message since the day I submitted electronically with HR Block. My return was flagged for an error, error was fixed, no letter sent, even though I am still on processing message, my return deposit is scheduled. I have USAA and they don’t hold deposits, so we will see what happens. If not, I call again next week. NO id verify, no audit, no manual review for me, just an error they fixed.
She apologized and said she hopes I didn’t need the cash immediately as things with the PATH act are a little wonky in their system. I assured it’s all good, this return is taking us to Disney this summer, so no rush. She was very helpful, surprisingly so actually.
