I processed my return via H&R Block on 1/23 and was approved same day. On 2/1 I received the approved for DDD 2/8. WMR has since updated to deposit sent. I used my refund to pay for my processing fee with H&R Block. On 2/8 I received an email from HR Block stating that they have started the process of transferring my funds which should be released between 3-5 business days. I have used H&R Block for 8 years and I usually have my deposit the day the IRS sends the funds – so based on history – I should have had my deposit on 2/8. However H&R Block now uses a different bank so below is my story:

Fees paid: $29.99 – software to file return
$34.95 – refund account deposit fee (holds refund before transferring to my bank???)
My bank – local credit union. Makes deposits by 9:30am. No holds

Here is a recap of my interactions with them:

      • 2/9 – no deposit – 22 minutes on the phone. CSR representative confirmed ACH transfer processed 2/8 and confirmed my routing and bank info. Rep also reminded me that I needed to wait 3-5 days. Suggested that I should receive funds by Friday (2/10).
      • 2/10 – no deposit. 40 minutes on the phone. I spoke with a CSR rep who confirmed ACH transfer processed 2/7 at 10pm. Again confirmed my routing and bank info. Transferred me to a their bank expert who confirmed all the above. Banking expert reminded me that I needed to wait 3-5 days. Suggested that I should receive funds by Monday (2/13).
      • 2/13 – no deposit. 1hrs 20 minutes on the phone. I spoke with a CSR rep who confirmed ACH transfer 2/8 not 2/7 and stated Friday rep was wrong. Again confirmed my routing and bank info. Transferred me to a their bank expert who confirmed all the above. This rep was rude, cut me off the entire time and barely got to understand what I was asking for so she started processing a cancelation for my refund because she assumed my bank account was closed. I requested a supervisor given conflicting information received. The supervisor was arrogant. Told me that he was going to transfer me to an automatic recording which could assist me better. He confirmed that no cancelation was processed and that I needed to wait the full 5 business days which would end 2/15. When I asked “ what should I do if there is no deposit on 2/15” his response was “ma’am with all due respect, I am a supervisor and I’m telling you that you will have it on 2/8” (yup… nice right?). He also cut me off, spoke over me and ended the call letting me know there is nothing he can do to help me until 2/15.
      • 2/14 – no deposit. I didn’t call.
      • 2/15 – SURPRISE no deposit. The first 2 times I called, after a 15-20 minute conversation with many holds, the transfer to the banking department ended up with a disconnected call. The third call – I asked to go straight to the banking department and after 14 minutes I was told the funds are still at the clearinghouse and that I should wait another 2-5 days or they can initiate an investigation which should be resolved in 5-10 business days…

Today is 2/15 – business day 5 – calendar day 7 and I still don’t have my funds. Essentially I paid them $35 to hold my $ and give me zero info as to when I will get it….

Thankfully I am not in dire needs for the funds – I had just planned a few things around it… but wanted to share my experience and story. HTH someone else.

I will never use H+RB, years ago a friend of mine had them do a 1040ez, so I decided to do a EZ for her (it’s not rocket science) and mine got more back for her then HRB with no fees. Everything went through fine. Hard to understand how they could mess that up.

finally received my deposit after another total of 2hr 40 minutes on the phone with HR Block who tried to tell me i wouldn’t get my funds until the 21st.

hoping my story helps someone out there.

I called again in the afternoon (after 2pm) 35 minutes on the phone, went straight to supervisor who argued that funds would be in my account by 6pm today (despite me stating my bank closes at 4 and had no more pending deposits for the day.) the conversation went in circles – confirmed my bank information again.. no resolution.

2/16 – Business day 6 / Calendar day 8 – no deposit. Called again. First 8 minutes on the phone. CSR representative confirmed ACH transfer processed 2/8 and confirmed I should have received the funds. She attempts to transfer me to the bank and drops the call instead. Call back – 15 minutes on the phone. Went directly to bank representative who confirmed ACH transfer processed 2/8 and confirmed I should have received the funds. She traces the transfer and states it shows completed on her end with no error or rejection codes. I 3-way my bank who confirms my routing and bank information and reiterates that nothing is showing, nothing is pending. My bank hangs up. I ask the bank rep to open an investigative case for me to see where my deposit is lingering. She states she will transfer me to a supervisor and transfers me to a virtual survey.

Woosah…. I’m done with the phone. I’m showing up at a local office when I leave work today. This is ridiculous.

I used to swear by H&R block back in the day, of course this was when doing it online was kinda new for the average joe. Again it was great compared to the two to three months it used to go to the library, get the papers, fill them out and send them back in and of course then just wait.
I think the first time I filed with them it took 4 weeks and this obviously seems lightening speed compared to the months it took to paper file.
The last time I used them I swore I would never ever use them again was in 2010. I had actually been using Turbo tax at this time but got caught up in the mess where Turbo tax transmitted blank returns for thousands and decided I would go back to H&R even if they were more expensive.
I opened an emerald card and elected the fees be taken out of my return. The IRS side actually went smooth but when my funds went to the fee collection bank is where is went south. First I had to fax in documents a week before my DD because I had to prove whom I was or they were going to close the card for no good reason. I gave those people at the Emerald card all but my first born to prove who I was not once, but four times. Then came the DD date and sure enough the Treasury sent the funds to the fee bank and I could see it sitting there for a few hours and then it showed that it was sent to my card.
To make this long winded story a bit shorter it took 45 days, and endless calls to find my refund after they figured out that when I filed and they issued me a card they somewho input the wrong information into the DD from them to the card. SO my money had gone to someone else or maybe a dead card or who knows. The worst part is I would have been ok with it and understood that crap happens but they were so nasty and quick to blame me. At one point they accused me of putting in the wrong account number, however you don’t do that when your getting a new card it is automatic and you don’t even get to see the account number until you have the physical card.
Sorry so long winded just wanted to let you know your not alone and that I hope things clear up fast and they do the right thing and get you your refund and refund the fees they charged.

Then I would be contacting Corporate Office with HRB and also a Supervisor with BOFL.

i totally agree…. And for the record 4pm – business day 5 – i’m still waiting for their ACH transfer. WMR pretty much has been at 3 bars with refund sent and has had me out of their hair since 2/8…

IMO H&R Block should be handling all this hassle for you AND they owe you your processing fees back. You could have done it yourself with TA, TT, or similar and had your money by now.

Hrb is in bed with government meaning they work by government protocol.

I just received an e-mail this morning from H&R Block telling me that my refund was on the way and please allow 3-5 days for it to be available from your bank. This is my first time paying for the service and thus having my money sent from their bank. Just hoping it will be quick. If not I will be writing a story like yours for all to read. Hope you receive your deposit soon.

I know that they did obtain a new bank this year and if there are many complaints it may be the only year they use them. There is no reason why your refund should still be withheld. I would call and ask for the supervisor. I have had my fees held for years and only once have I had to wait two days past the IRS deposit date for my return. I completely understand your frustration.
