      Any idea why a tax return would be sent back? And does this start the entire processing time over?

          Shirley, I’m pretty sure you must have figured this out already. Most times, the amended return wasn’t signed or it’s a case where you didn’t send in the necessary support forms that form the basis for the amendment. For instance, if you amended your return to file for a child and receive the EIC. They will ask for the EIC form. I’ve seen instances where they will simply ask for the missing form and other cases where they ask and also send back the amendment form. Depends on who looks at your file at the IRS.
