So I just heard through a pretty reputable and well followed tax professional on many social media platforms that the irs has officially released a statement that many filers will not see a tax refund until summed around mid June. This is due to what they called a “LOG-JAM” for early filers due to too many tax returns being sent at once on certain days such as 2/12 2/13 and other dates that crowded the system

All of those that filed February 12 through May 17th are known as seasonal filers, and those who file after the tax season closes on May 17, 2021 are considered late filers. So if what you mentioned is correct about early filers being jog-logged, then this doesn’t apply to those who filed after the tax season opened. I’m not saying that you are wrong, but what they did was misinformed you on who falls under what category.

“Early filers” aren’t those who filed after the tax season started. You are not considered an early filer unless you filed *prior* to the opening tax season date which in most cases those who file earlier than January 27th; however in this case it’s February 12, 2021.

I’m a CPA. The truth has been told. All early fillers from February 12 thru March 12 are in logjam. Every return I have done after March 21st my clients are receiving refunds slowly from IRS. It’s crazy this year due to the pandemic among other things. I have 20 clients never received their 2019 return. It’s an headache in all kind of ways knowing everyone needs their financial income refund and you can’t tell your clients no more than it’s an error or 10 weeks process on returns.

So is this “log jam” going to effect our stimulus check or will they use our 2019 return?

@ANNALEE
I ALSO DONT GET IT!! It’s so dumb and so unfair. I wish they would just shut down the phone lines and delay the people who are filing late and make them wait while they get caught up on early filers. All they do is spew bullshit on the phone anyways making everyone nervous telling them there is an error when it isn’t an error at all. And if it is errors they are responsible for fixing it or sending out a notice in timely manner -

@your soulmate
Look up DUKE LOVES TAXES ON INSTa FB AND TIK TOK.I also tried to find the statement in the news and on the site but this is just coming from a tax professional who relays information to others. I don’t know what his sources are but like I said he is super reliable and hasn’t been wrong about anything yet. So I don’t think he makes up any stories

Some might see it sooner but mid June is the time allowance they are giving hence why so many have been told wait 10 to 12 weeks. The 10 week countdown does not include the 21 day waiting period. It starts after the 21 days and beyond.if you are on still being processed and filed on one of the logjam days you may likely not get any updates or dd until April or may. Also they will still direct deposit refund unless u request to have it mailed.

Not only is the IRS trying to adjust for unemployment…they are also adjusting for Form 8962 Premium Tax Credit.
If early filers had to pay back all or part of their Obamacare subsidy..it is being forgiven for tax year 2020.My thread begins with ACA posted a few hours ago.

I guess I am to dumb to get it. So a 2/12 gets set aside until there is time but it doesn’t get to fill an open time slot before an incoming 3/20 return of equivalent complexity which gets processed while the 2/12 waits. Yep, makes a lot of “fairness” sense to this dummy.

So where is the statement? I looked on their website and I couldn’t find that? Are they telling the public or keeping it from us?

Hate to be bearer of bad news but it’s better to know than to not know and keep checking wmr and calling irs back 2 back with frustration. We all just have to wait longer cuz we picked wrong time and day to file. Nothing is wrong with our return so that’s a weight off. Just trying to see the upside in a stressful situation

Some may get it sooner but this would explain the 10 week wait everyone has been told. And that 10 weeks does not include the 22 day initial waiting period. It starts after the 21 days and beyond depending on when u were accepted. So count 10 weeks from after 21 days and that will be your estimated date of seeing any progress

If you filed with unemployment the 10,200 tax deduction will likely show up along with your refund. They are trying to deposit it all at the same time for those who have had to wait and caught up in logjam.
