IRS issued a new press release saying WMR will update on the 18th now. WTF?!?! Seriously?
The 15th….no now the 16th….no….now the 18th….MAKE UP YOUR MIND IRS.
Tomorrow it will probably change to the 20th, who knows anymore. I’m throwing in the towel.

The IRS’s “Where’s My Refund?” tool will be updated on February 18 for many taxpayers who claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). Before February 18, some taxpayers may see a projected deposit date or an intermittent message that the IRS is processing their return. Early filers claiming the EITC/ACTC may experience delayed refunds because of the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015 (PATH) Act (P.L. 114-113).
The PATH Act generally requires that no credit or refund for an overpayment for a tax year will be made to a taxpayer before the 15th day of the second month following the close of that tax year, if the taxpayer claimed the EITC or ACTC on the return. This provision in the PATH Act applies to credits or refunds made after December 31, 2016.
Many taxpayers claiming these credits traditionally file during the opening weeks of tax season and seek early refunds, the IRS has reported. However, the IRS has cautioned that the affected refunds likely will not arrive in the bank accounts or debit cards of taxpayers until the week of February 27 (TAXDAY, 2017/02/10, I.1), if there are no processing issues with the return and the taxpayer selected direct deposit.
“Where’s My Refund?” Updates Feb. 18 for Most EITC and ACTC Filers

Refund Timing for Earned Income Tax Credit and Additional Child Tax Credit Filers
The IRS will begin to release EITC/ACTC refunds starting Feb. 15. However, the IRS cautions taxpayers that these refunds likely won’t arrive in bank accounts or debit cards until the week of February 27 — if there are no processing issues with the tax return and the taxpayer chose direct deposit. This additional period is due to several factors, including banking and financial systems needing time to process deposits.
Where’s My Refund? on IRS.gov and the IRS2Go mobile app will be updated with projected deposit dates for early EITC /ACTC refund filers a few days after Feb. 15. Taxpayers will not see a refund date on Where’s My Refund? or through their software packages until then. The IRS, tax preparers and tax software will not have additional information on refund dates, so Where’s My Refund? remains the best way to check the status of a refund. Why is my refund being held?
Beginning in 2017, if you claim the EITC or ACTC on your tax return, the IRS must hold your refund until Feb. 15. This new law requires the IRS to hold the entire refund — even the portion not associated with the EITC or ACTC. Like previous years, some tax refunds may be held if there are questions about the tax return or the IRS needs more information.
Will I get my refund on Feb. 15?
While the IRS will begin to issue EITC/ACTC refunds starting Feb. 15, you should not count on actually seeing your refund until the week of Feb. 27 — if you chose direct deposit or a debit card and there are no processing issues with your tax return.
Why does it take so long for the funds to show up in my account?
It takes additional time for refunds to be processed after leaving the IRS, and for financial institutions to accept and deposit them to bank accounts and products like debit cards. Also many financial institutions do not process payments on weekends or holidays, which can affect when refunds reach taxpayers. For EITC and ACTC filers, the three-day holiday weekend involving President’s Day affects their refund timing.
How do I check the status of my refund?
Where’s My Refund on IRS.gov and the IRS2Go mobile app remains the best way to check the status of a refund. Where’s My Refund will be updated with projected deposit dates for early EITC and ACTC refund filers a few days after Feb. 15. Taxpayers will not see a refund date on Where’s My Refund or through their software packages until then. The IRS, tax preparers and tax software will not have additional information on refund dates, so taxpayers should not contact or call them about refunds before the end of February.

@ Kitskycat – If you filed before today… you are too an early filer. The IRS considers ANY person filing before the 15th of Feb to be an early filer, not just people who file before the opening of tax season.

@Kiskycat
I don’t think most of the early filers are scammers, that isn’t very nice, since 99% of the people on here are early filers. And the IRS is considering EVERYONE who files before Feb 15th to be an early filer, it isn’t just people who file before the opening of tax season. Please don’t be insulting to others.

@TaxPayer
??? Yeah, I think we all understand that, it’s what we are discussing on this thread. Lol -

All that is saying is the “Where’s My Refund” will not be updated until the 18th. It does not mean that the refund will not be approved or sent to the bank accounts. It just means that they will not be posting the updated information to “Where’s My Refund” until the 18th.

It says EARLY filers. Im glad I wasnt an early filer, those are the ones being checked for fraud. Early filers are mostly the early scammers. Good Luck we shall hopefully see something tomorrow. And as far as Valentines Day the IRS was completely HEARTLESS!!! lol

@TMT Be a total douchecanoe and maybe it’ll come quicker?
@HANNAH I’ve already decided to just go with March. If I try to convince myself it’s April, I think I might go completely insane.

Lets NOT plan on April and say we did O want my money now. Dumbass
-
February 14, 2017 at 11:01 pm #4170639HANNAH
Let’s just plan on April and then none of us will be dissapointed. This whole thing is ludicrous. I can’t wait to see the results of how much fraud was actually prevented. But I suppose they will lie about that too.

Well this entire PATH act has definitely proven that the school systems need to raise the bar regarding reading comprehension.

Geez people….. why argue when someone is trying to warn you of a change. Read it for yourself.
Where’s My Refund?” will be updated on Feb. 18 for the vast majority of early filers who claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit. Before Feb. 18, some taxpayers may see a projected date or an intermittent message that the IRS is processing their return.
-
February 14, 2017 at 10:27 pm #4170594Jennifer
Curious to know where this press release was. Just checked the irs press release page and there is nothing saying anything about pushing the date up. As well I have the 15th date when I check wmr or irs2go.

By law, the IRS is required to hold EITC and ACTC refunds until Feb. 15. However, taxpayers may not see those refunds until the week of Feb. 27. Due to differing timeframes with financial institutions, weekends and the Presidents Day holiday, these refunds likely will not start arriving in bank accounts or on debit cards until the week of Feb. 27 — if there are no processing issues with the tax return and the taxpayer chose direct deposit.
The IRS phone assistors do not have additional information on refund dates beyond what taxpayers have access to on “Where’s My Refund?”. Given high call volumes, taxpayers should not call unless directed to do so by the refund tool. In addition, a common myth is that people can get their refund date earlier by ordering a tax transcript. There is no such “secret” option to find a refund date by calling the IRS or ordering a transcript; just check “Where’s My Refund?” once a day. -

@Char. Maybe you should check again it does not say the 15th.

-

-
February 14, 2017 at 9:51 pm #4170566Me
Also there was never supposed to be an update on the 15th for PATH. Right from the start they have always stated it would update AFTER the 15th. Meaning the 16th at the earliest.
-
February 14, 2017 at 9:50 pm #4170565
lol….funny but not funny….but expected lol…..just don’t know what to say…..
-
February 14, 2017 at 9:49 pm #4170564Me
It says MOST will be updated by the 18th. Which was part of there previous state8where they stated WMR would start updating with most account updated on the 18th. I don’t think they’re saying they won’t start until the 18th. They’re saying most WILL be updated by the 18th.

February 14, 2017 at 9:44 pm #4170560Kat
I guess they figure if 50% of us die from stress related causes due to the PATH act, then they will have 50% less people claiming the credits next year.
-
February 14, 2017 at 9:42 pm #4170558DifferentTom
Yeah, I just saw that. I think they are just covering their asses. It says some taxpayers may see an update before. But your right it probably will change again tomorrow, lol.
