Filed IS for the first time this year. With as fast as they are moving this year, I’m hoping it processes sooner than 11 weeks.

      Anyone else?

Apparently no refunds will be affected after March 2020 to September 30,2021

Definitely – and if we provided them for the last 11 years and they can see that – why the actual F do they need it EVERY year haha. Nothings changed, the defaulted loan is still my wife’s and it’s still from before we were married lol.

I heard at one point as well that they halted any collections on student loans, from the stimulus as well as refund. We filed one just to be on the safe side. I’m hoping if they aren’t doing offsets for student loans, they disregard the IS form and process as normal. It’s crazy to me that they take 11 weeks to process it when they could see it on their end who has the offset to begin with.

Interesting. We always file an injured spouse due to my wifes old student loans that they try to offset every year even though she’s on disability. That being said, I called 800-621-3115 and on the recording it says that all student loan payments, offsets, and wage garnishments have been halted until 9/30/2021. I am hoping that’s correct because we desperately need ours quickly so we can move since I just got a new job after being laid off from my previous position due to COVID.

Offsets are indeed happening with tax refund. It was the stimulus that was then rule for no offsets….however the treasury dept article I read said the offset will still come out of refund and the rebate (if it applies to someone) is added to your refund.

Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t they not supposed to be offsetting this year due to COVID? Or is that just for federal debt ie student loans in default etc? I could have sworn I saw somewhere that they wouldn’t be offsetting debt because of it….
