My husband has a child from before we became a couple. He didn’t know about him until the boy was 5 and he received papers. The. About 5 years ago they closed the case and the boys mom filed to have it reopened and the put him in arrears for the years it was closed. They gave him an offset. He hasnt worked in 2018 due to a car accident.they told him to have me file form 8379. Anyone know how long this might delay my return?

I was just wondering if anyone is having the same issues on wmr as it is saying im entering the wrong info? This is my first year having to use this method as my wife does not work but yet still has some unpaid debt we are trying to resolve. I just wanted us to file jointly so my tax preparer filed injured spouse for me so i could obtain the refund that is due to me. Its just something new so im automatically leary of it. Lol any info or advice is greatly appreciated.

Spoke to someone today at the irs. Once they have accepted and approved your form they told me 6weeks wait time to release the refund after they process and confirm the numbers. Mine was accepted 2-12 so they told me expect update by 3-26 at latest

I am in a similar boat. I forgot to file the Injured spouse form and they took my whole refund as my husband was unable to work due to back surgery and a car accident that led to the surgery. I had to mail in my forms and it takes 6-8weeks to process if sent in individually but it turns a 3wk turn around for e-filed returns into upto 11weeks. But it makes sure that you get your money.
