      @haf181

Filed and accepted federal refund on 1/24. Lost bars shortly thereafter. Received letter 4883c on 2/6 requesting I call and verify my identity. Did so after an hour long wait. Had a very straight forward conversation with an adequate representative and successfully verified my ID. Was told that everything was good to go now but would have to wait 9 WEEKS to receive my straight forward return.

From searching around, 9 weeks is an extreme worst case scenario and have seen a DDD received 4 days after ID phone call in an extreme best case. I have a couple of big things coming up soon and would love some peace of mind as to when I can realistically expect this nice chunk of change considering my return is about as straightforward as it gets and I use direct deposit.

Anyone have experience with this? Fourth year getting a return and first time ever having this issue.

      Thanks,
      Mark

I verified on 2/27 and on 3/4 my wmr changed to Take Action Ref 1541. Today I called and spoke to an IRS rep and she said everything was fine and to wait the 7 remaining weeks. I checked my mail 10 mins later and I had a 4464c letter saying I was Under a 60 day review from the date of the letter which was 3/9/17. So just because you verified doesn’t mean everything is fine as I have seen you can still go under review. The IRS reps will say anything to get you off the phone. Last year I had to verify my identity and was approved 2 weeks later, so I’ve seen the good and bad side of it.
This has been a crazy tax season, I was accepted 1/23 and have no clue if or when I’ll see my money.

Filed 1/23. Accepted 1/24. Id letter received 2/21. I id verified that same day over the phone. This past Saturday I got my deposit date of 3/15. I was also told the 9 week wait thing, but it only took me 3 weeks to get a date.

I filed and was accepted on 1/26/17

Received 4883C ID verification because my APT number changed??? lol
              Verified same day 2/20/17

Currently 3/13 and still no movement on the bars… will update once I see some action.

Update: I was finally able to order tax transcripts today (which is usually a good sign that things are processing). It’s been exactly one week so far! Hoping to have an update on WMR sometime next week.

I Just completed the verification process via phone on 2/24/17. Now waiting for updates. I unfortunately had to go through this same process last year, however it only took about 2 weeks total- if that. Good luck everyone! Keep me posted if possible. Tracey the number to call for verification is 800-830-5084. If you get someone nice they should let you do it. Just explain to them that you misplaced your letter or don’t currently have it in front of you but you do have all of the other information that the letter required. They allowed me to do so without the letter on Friday.

Received the letter today(2/21), called them and waited like ten minutes. Answered a handful of questions about previous year returns nothing too hard, they said it’s now back in processing and will be completed within 9 weeks (I’ve heard it usually doesn’t take that long).

                    Was EXTREMELY painless.

So if we lose the bars, that usually spells doom? LOL

Can someone tell me how long the hold time was and what questions they asked?

                          Hi Mark,

Did you receive your refund yet? I filed electronically and accepted on 1/31, received my letter on 2/18, verified my ID yesterday 2/20…praying it doesn’t take 9 weeks, really need this refund ASAP!

I too received this letter. Filed on 2/5 and approved 2/6 with DDD of 2/13. On 2/11, bars disappeared and error code 1121 showed up saying there was a delay. I called multiple times until a rep finally told me I was flagged for identity theft and that he would send the 4883c letter out to me as he wasn’t seeing that it was sent out yet. He happened to provide me with the phone number that I would have to call so after hanging up with him, I went ahead and called. I lied and said I received the letter although the rep told me she was seeing in the system that I just spoke with someone about sending it out lol. She asked me for the control # on the letter and I just lied and said I wasn’t seeing it/wasn’t sure what she was asking. I think she took pity on me because she said it was ok and proceeded to ask me questions to verify my identity. She told me I was verified and that it could take up to 9wks. I called back the following day to confirm nothing was being held up and an agent confirmed for me that it was just to wait as everything looked good on their end.

Still waiting. WMR is still showing the error code. Hoping for an update over the weekend :/

They told me 9 weeks too and told me they couldn’t put in electronically I had to wait for a paper check.

                                    Mark,

What did you mean bars vanished? I just got a letter today and called and the IRS representative couldn’t even explain why I got the letter. I can read–it says identity theft–but I’ve never had this problem before !

                                    Thanks,
                                    Marie

When do your bars come back if they vanished?

Thank you for the info. What do you mean you’re a “weekly”?

Always Unhappy at Tax Time :(

My wording also changed. I idverified on Monday morning and wording changed this morning from your return is being processed and a refund date will be provied blah blah blah to your refund is being processed. I’m a weekly so I’m hoping I see something else on Saturday morning.

Thank you everyone for the very helpful responses.

Status changed today from “your return is still being processed” to “we have received your tax return and it is being processed”. I guess that’s progress lol.

I had to ID Verify last year, got my refund 11 days later. They told me 9 weeks too, but it wasn’t even 2!! :)

I had this happen to me in the 2015 year, Took a week and got my DDD, I had the code 1121 to where it shows i was approved for direct deposit and then the money never came. Then code 1121..man.. lucky you just lost bars

                                                Good luck

                                                  Thanks Carrie!

2 weeks would make a lot of sense since that’s how long it usually takes to receive a refund through direct deposit once accepted. Logically, my new acceptance date should simply be 2/6 and money received two weeks from that point on around 2/20. Just crazy that they give a potential waiting period 4 times longer than usual for no apparent reason, especially in my case when I straightforwardly answered a couple of confirming questions and was told all was good.

I saw this a lot on a group I was in last year. You are right that 9 weeks is the worst case scenario. Most people have it within a couple of weeks. I don’t want to give false hope but it is probably a more realistic expectation to have it within a couple of weeks, or hopefully less. Good luck!
