Is ID done prior to any processing of returns? I received the ID Verify letter last night and verified by phone this morning. My return was accepted on 2/2 so are we basically to assume that after almost 1 month my return hasn’t been looked at aside from for ID verification? My transcripts are blank, no codes so that’s my assumption unless someone knows the process other wise. I am also filing injured spouse so I have no expectations for it to be a quick process but I figured my return would at least be processed in a timely manner while a case working investigated the IS form.

Turns out what I got WASN’T my 4883C. Instead, it was a notice of me signing up online so I could get my transcripts.
So I STILL don’t have my 4883C, even though it was mailed 2/20.
And I was on hold for an hour last night waiting for a TA, and wound up hanging up.

So I work for a tax company and am in the same boat as many waiting on an Id verify letter…. while researching why I need the letter and finding it’s due to a control number listed I realized that the tax company I work for along with all other tax companies can see that control number you’re needing. So call and ask for your dcn or mef id because once you’ve been accepted by the irs these control numbers are sent to the tax companies for your records

My delivery notification showed that my letter is in the mail today.
After I called twice, once with a TA, and had them verify the address they mailed it to (both times reading me my current address), it was mailed to my old address and, through some stoke of luck, forwarded to my current address.
And this morning I learned that my checking account has been compromised and I have to close it.
And that’s the account the IRS was supposed to DD to.
Worst. Day. Ever.

I need to call too, and ask them to resend.
But every time I talk to them they say it’s normal for it to take 2-3 weeks to get to me.
I’m a 2-3 hour drive from where they mail the letter.

@Racbel yeah I’m not worried about verifying myself. I just need my letter. I guess I’ll call today to make sure it was sent.

You can always call and confirm just to make sure a letter was sen out.
But when you do get the letter be sure not to get any of the questions wrong
Or else you have to go to irs office which is another big hassle. They usually ask info about this and last years w2 info like
Total fed with holding amount. Past employers.
2016 refund amount, and both parents name. And also the direct depoist account number and routing number.
So even if you got a prepaid card from hrblock, they will still
Have the depoist account number in the packet of papers they gave you.So its good to have this in hand to make sure you pass the verification process
Good luck and hopefully this will be over soon for all of us.

@Racbel thank you so much for this info.
I was told I was supposed to receive a letter by 2/27 and I got nothing so I called back on 2/27 and a rep supposedly reissued the letter to me but I still have yet to get anything. I’m wondering if I should callback or give it a few extra days.
This seems to be the only thing holding me up.
Or should I just get a TA. I just need to verify my identity waiting for the letter seems to be the hard part and they have my correct address and everything.

I filed 1/30
After no updates i called on 2/20 and was told they sent me a
Id verify letter to my old address. Obv i didnt get it. So she
Said she would resent on 2/20 to my new address. After not getting letter for 8 days, i thought i would
Call back just to check up. Turns out , the irs rep didnt
Even end up sending letter! So they then sent it out on
2/28 and i got letter 3 days later. So i ID verfied on 3/2 and now am waiting for a dd date.
If the first rep had auctually sent it like she said i proably would
Have had a ddd of 3/7.So always double check what they tell you.
Also the letter came from atlanta,Ga if that helps anyone.

Still waiting on my letter too. Supposedly mailed on 2/20 to my current address. However, it’s now 3/5, and still no letter.

ID Verified on Wednesday 2/21, told the generic 9 week message. WMR has not updated as of today, all transcripts are blank. I was able to order a transcript over the phone though – maybe it will come blank?

Oh good, maybe i’ll get to see my transcripts filled in in a few days then. They were blank (still are) prior to receiving the ID verify letter in the mail yesterday so no cycle codes originally either.

Yes they pull it out of processing happens to me filed in 1/18 I’d verified 2/20 was able to see both my scripts on 2/23 cycle code 20180805 so it was pushed out because my origins code was 20180405

number on the letter for ID Verify is 800-830-5084 but they’ll ask you specific stuff from the letter like the control number etc. Not sure if they just do the verification or if they handle sending out the letters as well.

Who did you speak to? They supposedly mailed me a letter, but it’s been 8 days and I haven’t received it.

I called yesterday, no codes or anything indicating a letter. Lost bars on WMR a few weeks ago but no codes or tax topics.
I was accepted 2/2, called on 2/26 and the lady tried to tell me it hadn’t been 21 days which hindsight I think I understand though it was really day 23 not counting the accepted day. Transcript has As Of date of 2/26 which normally indicates 21 days from when they received it. In any case, she didn’t mention an ID verify and told me I could call on the 27th to get more info on the status of the return but when I got home I had the letter in the mail. ID verified this morning but figured I’d learn nothing if I called back today.

Did you call them for your letter? If so how long did it take you to receive your letter?
