Hey guys! After I filed my taxes this year, I received a letter from the IRS last week saying I owe them $33,000 from under reported taxes files in 2017. The agent said I apparetly made $80k more that year and that a company reported my wages. I never worked for this company. Come to find out, I was part of the data breach from Equifax in 2017 and someone had stole my identity even opened and used credit cards in my name. I files everything correcty with the credit companies and the FTC and IRS last week. After waiting for my refund, I checked the status and it said my refund was applied to past taxes due. Im extremely upset and pissed. I called several times for hours trying to get this straight out with the IRS. They only told me the case can take up to 180 days and I will have to wait. The form I files with IRS was 14039 for identity theft. But now I have no refund! I dont know what else to do. I needed that money!
