To start with if this post is not allowed here please let me know this is my first time posting here.
My story beings last March around the 1st to be exact.
Everything looked good. I filed my own taxes as I usually do. Nothing had changed on my form other than my wife and I had a daughter and I claimed her. I’ve lived at the same address for 5 or so years now. I mailed in my all my forms at the beginning of March knowing it takes a little longer to get anything back filling paper but I did it anyways without direct deposit. I posted for the paper check. I didn’t think anything of it at first like I said I knew it was gunna take longer to receive my return but I wasn’t needing it to bad at the moment so it was ok. About 5 months into waiting and reading about how alot of other people’s had been delayed. I start trying to contact someone anyone that was a real person with the IRS. After about 100 numbers and a month or so of failed attempts I finally reached a person on the other end of the line. I explained what had been going on to make a long story short I was supposed to have received the 5071C letter in the mail weeks ago. Ok I’m irritated at this point because I haven’t seen anything from the IRS in months and could not get a human on the phone. The lady says we are sending another one out and it could take up to 3 weeks I believe she said. Well a couple weeks later I receive both the original and the backup letter in the mail at the same time both of which are 8 months late from the time I filed. I start to gather all the info I need to call and verify my ID like there asking me to. I’ve used Turbo Tax in the past so I started trying to get copies of previous tax returns and again another long story short. Turbo Tax locks me out of my account and it has to be reset through a process of calling them letting them connect with my pc mess around a bit me send them a photo copy of my State issued ID and then wait for a tech to reset my account so I can retrieve my past returns. All in all the process took about 2 weeks pushing my second phone call and finally verify my ID into november 2018. I finally get everything squared away with the I’D verification the lady tells me it could take 6 weeks for my return to be in the mail and my status finally updated Nov. 26, 2018 to “We have received your tax return and it is being processed”.
It is now Jan. 13, 2019 no updates to the IRS App no letters in the mail no check nothing at all. It’s been 7 weeks since the update to the status 8 to 9 weeks since the I’d verification and nothing has changed at all. I thought maybe the government shutdown was holding it up again or I just have not waited long enough again for it to process and go through. Has anyone here ever experienced something like this. Does the IRS owe me interest on my return now or am I gunna be lucky to even get my return before I file again.
