Hey there, just wondering if anyone else has ever had this, and what it could possibly mean. We filed and were accepted on Feb 6th,and never got the PATH message, just went straight to “have received your return…TT152…blah blah”. One bar too. So I checked this morning on his (which I have been doing this whole time since his SS# was listed first on the return) and I got the “we cannot provide any information about your return…” with the info about reference number 9001 and all that. And his bars are gone. So I checked my SS# and I have one bar and just get the generic processing message.

So, I’m just wondering if this means ID verify for him? I’m guessing that our return is OK if my SS# still shows its OK right? All speculation here, but I guess that’s what we do!

Thanks in advance if anyone has any insight. I’ve looked up what 9001 can mean, but haven’t seen any instance where one spouse has it but the other doesn’t.

The general timeline of e-filed returns is: Transmission > Acceptance > Processing > Approval > Refund.

After acceptance, but before processing the status may not be available. If you contact the government or try look up your refund status while your return is still pending, don’t be surprised if they tell you “no record found.” This is normal; until the government starts reviewing and processing your return, they won’t have any record of it.
The IRS started processing returns later than in prior years and as such has a backlog to work through. They also just recently started processing returns claiming EIC and/or ACTC.

During processing, the government reviews your refund. During the review process, they look for math errors on your return (extremely rare in TurboTax) and they also check if you owe back taxes, unpaid child support, or other debts.

If they need to make any corrections, they may offset (reduce) your refund. In some cases, the correction might even increase your refund.

Ugh, that sucks! We got the 1541 last year too, my ex husband was trying to claim our girls. We had to send in a bunch of info, but I think it only took like 3 weeks once the IRS got it all. I just hate waiting for a letter to be sent out, to see what’s actually going on (if anything). I hope yours gets resolved quickly, this is so stressful!

Mine was the same. I was accepted 1/15, a couple days later wmr went to code 9001 for my husband’s SSN but not mine. Wmr changed to 1541 for both of us in 2/9. No updates since. Hopefully yours is better. Best wishes.

PS. We have the EIC and all those credits too, if that helps anyone.
