I’ve used HR Block for decades without issue. This year there is an over $10k difference in refund amount from HR vs TT. HR being the low number. Anyone else run into HR not calculating the CTC/ACTC correctly?

Note this is filing online through HR website. Not software or in person.

I had the same issue with HR, I’ve been using them for 10+ years. But I had to change to TaxSlayer this year. It wasn’t accepting my ACTC and my EIC was less than half of what TaxSlayer and TT said. Imo, I do believe HR had issues this year with their software and/or forms if it had anything do to with the CTC-ACTC-OR EIC.

I also had used TT online to start my taxes and my expected refund was 22,000 and figured I should go in bc of the high amount so I walked into an HR office and am only getting back 16,000. I think that is really odd.

I have also used Hr block for years and like you this year they said I wasn’t eligible for the eic or actc even tho my info was the exact same as last year. Re-ran my info through TT and got my normal amounts. Not sure why HR block was being wonky this year.

Oh Anon thank you so much for your oh so helpful information!! I’m sure you’re right. After over 25 years of doing my taxes the same way, I suddenly forgot how. Silly me.

when I did TT & got to CTC it said $500 someodd $$. I had no payments had to amend to qualify . when I clicked the CTC I was able to change it. So if your doing it on app and get to the point try selecting the option showing amount see if u can fix it. Also with H&RBlock it depends on how/who files your return tht year IRS sent letter abt claiming credit or something of that nature I went into office and lady gave me wrong info & cost $480

I filed with TT and it doesn’t look like my remaining ctc was added. I called and they stated that the 8812 would be filed along with my return and that the remaining ctc amount would be in addition to what my posted refund amount. Wonder if this is true.
