I’m filing with H and R Block right now. I have to pay to file online, and I wanted to see what your experience is in paying by allowing them to take their fee out of your refund? I’ll be direct depositing into my checking account. Does allowing them to deduct the fee once the refund is issued delay getting a refund vs. paying for the fee with my debit card?

      Thank you!

No it doesn’t affect. And TBH I’ve had MUCH better luck and more money come back by using turbotax and no I am not trying to advertise the company. I just compare between the different programs and turbo tax gave me more back. Not sure why or how but they did.

I use H&R Block to file online, but I always just pay the fee directly. Doing so means that my refund goes straight from the IRS to my bank account.

It seems that when you have the fees withheld, the IRS sends the entire refund first to the preparer, who then takes their fees and then passes it on to your bank account. I have seen some say that it is a smooth process and does not delay their refund, I have seen others say it has taken extra time for them to receive it.

They also charge you a fee for this service, so you are paying extra (not just the fee you would pay if you paid it ahead of time, but that and then another fee).
