      I was in the situation where I tried to register for an irs account online but their system could not match the student loan account number I had vs the one they have. I called the eservices help desk phone number and a gentleman helped me and he was so kind! The problem is the irs has the account number that is in your Experian credit report which you can check for free and then you have to call your student loan company and ask for the account number they use to report to Experian! Now just to wait until my 24 hours from last night are up and finally register! Good luck!

          For those who student loans are through Navient I am also but after trying half a million times with my account number that shows on my statements from Navient I decided I was going to put the initials from my first and last name in front of the number and it took it. Try adding your initials than the account number found on your statements.

              @jg187387

              You have to call your loan provider to get the whole number. It is long but it was the one I needed to register

                Try calling your student loan servicer. Tell them you need the consumer report number. @jg187387 was your number really long and did it accept the whole number or partial part

                    I only get a partial account number every time I pull a credit report. Only the first 6-7 digits

                      How strange because my student loan company gave me the other account number, the one they use to report to Experian

                            My loans are through Nelnet. Did you pull up your Experian credit report? Just google free Experian credit report and you can click on the Experian website. Then sign up for one free credit report without the credit score number.

                              @jg187387 I am so confused. I just spent about 20 minutes on hold with Navient, told the agent I needed the account number they use to report to Experian and she told me 3 times that I have only one account number and that’s the only one they use to report to all bureaus. Who are your student loans through and what’s the number you called? I’m getting so much conflicting information.

                                If that still doesn’t work, go to your local IRS office to verify your ID in person (he told me if I had to do that I’d need my social security card and drivers license) then someone will email me a link with a temporary password to set up my account

                                  I figured why not share the answer with the others that were going through the same! I spent over 30 minutes on hold before getting to speak with the man from eservices. Glad I could help!

                                    @jg187387, thank you so much for posting this. I have been using the student loan account number on my Navient statement and keep getting locked out every 24 hours. It has been so frustrating.

                                          My goodness, thank you!! I’ve been going batty wondering why they were accepting the number I had.

                                            You are so very welcome! It was a nightmare day after day trying to register and not be able to because the account number on student loan statements is a consumer account number not the same as the one expieian has for their credit report which is what the IRS uses to verify identity.

                                              Thank you for this! I didn’t know where to go to find the account number-this clears a lot up though!
