I was just informed of a tax form 8994 basically stating that you have a economic hardship and you can receive your full refund even if you have an offset. Has anyone ever heard of this ?

It’s not only for those with offsets, but for those who are facing extreme circumstances (danger of losing their home, etc.) You will have to show proof of your emergency for it to be approved though.

Yes it is very possible. It is one of the only clauses, IF NOT THE ONLY clause outside of a refund loan that will get you your refund early. It is THE ONLY clause that will get you your return in full however. You will need to contact a TA and file for the hardship, and bring proofs of your hardship with you when you file.

Actually, I’m going through the same thing and found out form 8944 is for the tax preparer. The form you need to fill out is 433A.

Yes . It is there for people with offsets for tax related debts. There are some stipulations but if you are in need I would for sure fill out the form .
