Filed electronically on 1/20 and never got a approval or anything. WMR never even showed my return as being received, but low and behold I called my bank on a whim and the refund was deposited this morning.

That’s not the reason for the PATH act. The reason is due to identity thieves who steal your information and dependant information to get your refund. These people usually file early so they can get the money. Then when the real person files, their account gets flagged and they have to spend months proving who they are.

@ willbeas people do not seem to understand the Path Law it does not matter who file the same dependents year after year the law is in place to make sure the (Right) person is getting the credit. Example I have 3 kids I file all 3 each year for the past 4 years… this year my oldest moved in with my sister for 9 mos then came back home. My sister has the right to file my child who lived more than 6 months out of the year with her. Not I. So instead of the IRS giving the credits to me because I filed early they hold the return until after the 15th and if my sister file also then boom only one of us will get the credit & the Right one. The Path Law stops a lot of fraud & it’s either put a hold until after the 15th or they will do away with the credit!

Filing before season starts doesnt mean anything for eic or actc. I filed 1/20 and accepted 1/22

She filed a week before tax season started.
I’m a weekly and have been for years now so I’m not expecting to see any changes for a week or two.

If you are in the test batch you DO get your refund earlier. It’s the same procedure as if you filed after the opening date. People without the ACTC or the EIC will usually get their refunds within 21 days of their accepted date, unless there is an issue. People with the credits will have to wait until it shows up in your account. Again, delays can be caused by different issues. You can’t count on the IRS to be consistent. Period. Laws or no laws.
I have filed with the amount on my last pay stub for the past 6 years. It is always the same as my W2. There are risks if you don’t know for sure, but that’s the chance you take if it’s wrong. It’s a personal choice.
Let’s all be realistic. Whenever the government is involved in ANYTHING, chaos ensues. It’s important that we treat opinions as just that and respect each other. Everyone’s situation is different, and you don’t know their personal details.

I was not aware that they did that so early, I wonder what’s really going on

@Kaylee – with all due respect – and I share this ONLY from my experience. I came on here on 01/30 b/c I’d gotten my refund. I SWORE on everything I’d filed w/ EIC (as I had last year) and everyone said I had to be mistaken. I went back to my return and sure enough – I have the CTC (NOT ACTC) but no EIC as I’d thought. I believe it was lines 35 or 36 and on showing if you have the credit(s).
I’m glad she got it!!! But, it’s possible there is a mistake – as I was completely wrong and had to go on MULTIPLE strings and correct/apologize.

And test batch, I don’t understand why people continuously file early and go through the same thing year after year. They will accept you early, so you think. You actually are not…so plz stop it. This is why The laws are in place to begin with. There are no employers rushing to provide w2’s on 10th or even 18th of January..people need to stop using there last pay stubs as that is not a reflection of your true taxable wages. Companies promote that because they know the IRS can make small adjustment like that but you are the one who suffers the wait, while corrections are made. Then this self employment is getting out of hand as well…I will stop now. I could go on and on..

Lance get over yourself, you don’t know everything. If people were held last year and their dependents didn’t change they most likely wont be held this year. Plus the test batch people can have those credits and get their money early. So hush it!

My sister got her refund today as well and she most definitely had EIC and CTC. I don’t much care what you think or say Lance I have no reason to fabricate a story to amuse the masses. I like most still haven’t received mine but people are starting to get their money.

@rtbartonie I had a school credit. Not sure if that is one of the credits being held or not.

No lance, she most definitely claimed EIC and ACTC. And she most definitely got her refund in her bank account today. She was extremely shocked since she wasn’t expecting it until late this month.
Don’t assume everyone is stupid.

Nobody with eic or actc has received a refund, if they did they are mistaken and didnt claim the credits they thought they did
