      okay so I’m a pather that filed with TT on 1/31. Everything has been right on par with all the other pathers I’ve seen on here but I got hit with a big owie this morning…I’ll try to make this short…
      So I tried to get a refund advance through Credit Karma but was denied, they said I’d get an email which I never found until this morning in my spam folder. When I looked at it it said I was denied because they were notified of an offset.
      So my heart dropped, the only thing I have for this is the Student loan debts. so I called the TOP number and sure enough “offset for US DEPT OF ED”
      Which I thought they weren’t taking offsets for that until later in the year…..so I did what every millennial does, I googled it
      And here’s what I found….They are not touching Child tax credits until May 2022, it says absolutely nothing about the EITC. I bet they will offset and take the EITC and leave the CTC.
      It’s not like that’s overly horrible or something but it will still cause a lot of delays and lots of reduced payments that people are counting on.

      Anyway thanks for listening and letting me vent, and please update any info, any questions or just wanna say something. I’ll be on and off the site for a while so I will try to reply if I can.

          I have done rapid refund for years with TT. Never even thought it would be a problem. Never got a reply from Credit Karma or their bank. Spent hours the last 2 days with their idiotic support staff through email, as they don’t have chat or a number to call and who couldn’t tell me a simple answer. So I will be transferring my return out of there on and closing that CK account as fast as humanly possible.

            I am also curious if anyone who has a DD has had an offset actually taken foe student loans despite the May deadline! Last yr they took mine and refunded many weeks (months) later

              I took on a temp project for turbo tax that I resigned from that advance is bs so they tell people you pre-qualified for a certain amount but you have to have your refund go th credit karma on the new bank account that you have to open with them and then after you open a new account and have your refund set up to go to the new credit karma account they tell you you’re denied. Win for credit karma because now they have all these new accounts opened

                @Duboffset. Oh thank goodness. I’ve been on google and I was able to find a few updated articles saying that I basically panicked too early but I hadn’t actually talked to anyone. So thanks for the update and the calm down
                @Stuffed91
                The email was in my spam folder of the email I used for Turbo Tax and not Credit Karma which threw me, and it was titled “SECURE MESSAGE ABOUT YOUR REFUND ADVANCE” from First Centry Bank from an @borrowworks email address.
                Hope that helps.

                  what address did the email come from or what was the title? I got denied too but never found an email and should not have any offsets.

                    I too was denied the advance and had no clue until I found the message in spam. It was also for a dept of Ed. offset so I called them. Dept of Ed said that while there is technically an offset, it shouldn’t be collected because the cares act? is in effect until May.
