Wow, I must say that after reading through everyone’s issues this year, I am glad that I had to wait to file my tax returns. I had an erroneous offset on my account, so I had to wait until it was cleared before I filed my taxes. I never did receive any information from the IRS from January through March. It was for a student loan that I had consolidated. I contacted the Dept of Education back in December, and let me tell you, what a run around! I was finally informed that ECMC (who I discovered after multiple calls and contacts running thru all the “hoops”) had sent the withdrawal of the offset on 1/24. However, every time I called the IRS hotline for offsets, it kept saying that I had one. I attempted calling the IRS several times in March, only to get disconnected every time. I finally got through on 4/1 and verified that I did not have any offsets listed and that I was free to file my taxes. After all of this, I got a DDD very fast (won’t get excited until I see the money deposited though). Here are my dates:
12/2015: Discovered erroneous offset
1/24: Offset lift message sent to IRS
3/15: Still listing offset, contacted ECMC and they state they can’t “resend” and to just continue to wait
3/1-3/31: Continuously checking offset hotline, tried calling to talk to a person several times, always got disconnected
4/1: Finally get through to a live person after only a 32 minute wait. Offset is lifted, clear to file
4/1: E-filed both federal and state taxes
4/1: both accepted within an hour
4/4: Get bars on WMR saying refund is being processed
4/5: Get a message that SC state tax is being processed
4/6: Get 4/8 DDD for federal taxesNow, we’ll see if I actually get the DD on Friday. I have Woodforest, so they are usually really good at depositing funds a day early. Wondering how long my SC taxes will take though.
