It is that time of year again. It doesn’t seem like tax season can get anymore stressful, yet hear we are, in the middle of a, seemingly, never ending pandemic. The IRS has pushed the start of tax season into February, YIKES! So, what does that mean for tax returns subject to the PATH Act? It really shouldn’t delay anything this year, little to no impact, I would imagine. The widely accepted “Mid-February” date is the 15th, tax season opens on the 12th, the following Monday is the 15th, also a Federal Holiday, so, perhaps, instead of having to wait weeks for any word, this will be our year, we will see swift and positive movement. I have already filed, so I am in the waiting pool right now. Good luck to you all, may the IRS process and approve our refunds quickly.

@rhood711 I am almost willing to guarantee that it is because of the stimulus debacle. I qualified for free file, I noticed that a lot of people didn’t this year, I am assuming that is because of unemployment.

I just wanted to comment that I’ve noticed a lot of “paid fees upfront” notes on people’s threads. I am wondering if it is more than usual because of the stimulus payment debacle. SBTPG sent me mine, but I still elected to pay upfront this time. Really it didn’t make sense not to at any rate. Used TaxSlayer..under $12 with a coupon. Would’ve been $50 if I paid with my refund.

If you have one of those Early Posting Prepaid cards, it might be possible for daily accts with a Mon DDD to see $$ the Friday before, like last year.

Last year all the Jan filers that shared here saw their deposits in a weekly pattern like myself. I think depending on the cycle your transcripts are on, most people that filed before this week, will see their DD before the 28th.
I’ll have to lookup the cycle code pattern somewhere. I’m super nervous about delays.

                      Right @Jennifer Starr

That wording was exactly the same last year. Anyone with Transcript access knows WMR tool updates come after things are already moving. Last year the update was said to be 2/24, that’s the Monday after the 1st Thursday following 2/15/20.

This year 2/15 lands on Monday…I’d say Thursday 2/18 Processing Begins: 2-3- days(Friday- Sun) and then 4 Days to deposit. Next Business day is Monday 2/22 and for Weekly accts first deposits 2/26.

I did already file. That article does not say that PATH Act returns won’t be processed until the 22, it say WMR won’t update until the 22nd and that refunds would t be issued until the first week of March. The IRS website always says that PATH Act refunds won’t be issued until the first week of March, I have never had a DDD later than February 26th since the PATH Act was instated.

PATH processing won’t begin until 2/22, with the first refunds the first week of March (so, 3/3). That’s for those with no holdup.

                              Jennifer,

                              Did you already file?

                              Thx

It’s possible, however, I still think people with straightforward returns will see little to no delay. Special circumstances always take longer to process.

I think you’re dead wrong, processing won’t begin and many now have different situations with relatives moving in and children being home from schools and now being adult dependents. We’ll be lucky to see anything before early March.
