I forgot to include a W2 from a job I had very early last year what accounted for 4,000 of the 9,000 that I made this year lol. It wouldn’t have resulted in me owing anything, infact it would have made my return bigger. My refund is such a small amount of around $400, do you think the IRS will actually audit me or fine me or anything? I filed 1/14 still at one bar with tax topic 152 and refund info…I am really starting to worry and trying to get an idea of what night happen. The way I see it, the IRS just keeps the money I forgot to file because of my negligence lol

IRS will only audit you if you end up oweing them more. They won’t say anything if they owe you.

If you make under a certain amount…I think its actually 9k -10k they don’t actually require you to file.

When determining whether you need to file a return, you don’t include tax-exempt income. In 2016 for example, if you are under age 65 and single, you must file a tax return if you earn $10,350 or more, which is the sum of the 2016 standard deduction for a single taxpayer plus one exemption.”

i doubt they would actually do anything to you but for your sake you should get as much back as you can.

File an amended return. Shouldn’t cost anything additional, and better safe than sorry.

My bf forgot to include a w2 for a certain amount and didn’t amend because he honestly forgot he worked for this company since it was towards the end of the year. The IRS gave the refund as normal and everything processed as normal that year however eventually the IRS sent a letter in the mail and said he had to pay back a certain amount and could make payment arrangements (an agreement). So if the IRS doesn’t catch it when you filed this year and if you don’t amend it (which you might want to since you remember and know about it) then you will eventually get a letter about it, especially if you owe them. You might want to make sure if it would mean the IRS would owe you more though and amend it either way.

Amended return forms aren’t available yet, are they? Does the IRS hold the refund until you ammend the return? I’m definetely going to ammend it haha. I had brain surgery this year and it has greatly affected my memory…part of why my income was so low. I completely forgot about that job until I saw the W2 in the mail! I’ve just come to the conclusion that I will not be receiving my return and have planned as if I am not getting one, and then if I do get one it will be a pleasant surprise! :)

You should file an amended tax return. Employers will file their copies of your w2 with irs, would hate to be audited bc you didnt claim it and it was turned in by your employer.
