So I did my taxes on 2-03-21 and they were accepted on 2/12/21. I have ACTC & EITC. I don’t think I filed as a path. WMR has not went past the first bar. I can’t access my online account to even see if something is wrong but I keep reading about ones who have updated with dates. It wasn’t until after I submitted my tax return that I received a 1099-G form from last year. I don’t think it’s accurate. So my question is, will this offset my taxes? Is it a number that I can call to get an update over the phone?

If you catch the error before the IRS contacts you, then you should file an amended tax return on Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Tax Return. Be sure to include a copy of the 1099 with the amended return and include a payment for any tax you now owe. If you are still awaiting a refund from the original return, wait until you receive it before filing Form 1040X.

Since the 1099 form you receive is also reported to the IRS, the government knows about your income even if you forget to include it on your tax return. Once the IRS realizes that you owe additional tax on your unreported 1099 income, it will notify you and retroactively charge you penalties and interest beginning on the first day your tax payment is late.

(accidentally hit submit because I’m a space cadet…)

… and it’s possible but unlikely to hold up your refund, especially if you used your prior year’s income. You will need to file an amended return later though.

Any year you have EIC or ACTC, you’re path.

Wait until the IRS finishes processing your returns. If they find the 1099, they can fix it for you and make the adjustments themselves. If not, file an amended return once they’re done. The IRS has 13 weeks to process amended returns.

EITC/ACTC is PATH, so you are PATH.

If you did not include your Form 1099-G related to unemployment benefits with your efiled return and your efiled return was already accepted by the IRS, then you will need to file an amended tax return to include this information.

So will this stop my refund from fully processing? Or can I wait for this then do an amendment?
