I was accepted 1/25, I was able to order an account transcript 2/5, I thought it would be any day and I’d be able to get a refund transcript, and get a wmr ddd shortly following that, But NOTHING. So on my 21 days (well 22 because 2/15 irs was closed) the agent told me there were no codes or issues but that I had been randomly sleceted for futher review but that wouldn’t take any longer than another week, and if no notice, refund or DDD was posted by 2/23 I could call back but she was sure since there wasn’t any red flagged at that point, there wouldn’t be any problems.
Of course by yesterday nothing had changed. The first time I called the agent looked and told me there were no problems with my return but there was a failure with the processor, it broke while processing my return, that as soon as the processor was fixed it would finish my return but didn’t know how long it would take them to fix it. I asked to speak to the supervisor, he told me I couldn’t and asked me why I wanted to. I told him I planned to contact a tax advocate, to file hardship relief but read that it’s recommended to speak to a supervisor first. He asked me where I got that information, and told me the supervisor was just to oversee the call center and didn’t know anything more than he did. I was adamant and that it’s ok if the supervisor couldn’t tell me anything more but I want to speak to them. He said “ma’am the only purpose for this call center is to relay information about issues that need to be corrected before a return can be finished and to give a time frame on how long that will take. I told him well then what’s my time frame? he hung up on me!
I called back again I got a great agent who listened to what each agent had told me, and she truly cared that the hold up was having devastating consequences on me. I told her that it didn’t make any sense that first it was under review, now stuck in a “broken processor, she agreed that didn’t seen quite right. After she pulled everything up she said that it actually hadn’t been randomly selected, and that “broken” wasn’t the right word but the system had gotten to a point in my return where it was unable to continue on it’s own and would have to be finished by whatever department had. The time frame was up to 8 weeks. Her explanation made more sense than anything else I was told, but it didn’t help me at all. I told her I knew I change from married to head of household this year, and that if that was the hold up I could fax over any documents of proof to speed it up and she said: “What they need to finish your return isn’t from you, that’s why there is no code on wmr and no letter sent to you.” This was the moment I realized, they know exactly the problem, THEY JUST WON’T TELL ME! I caught that wording and asked “then what do they need and how long is it going to take to get it?! Apparently her telling me what it was isn’t allowed because is redirected me by saying “The good news about this is I believe that because the extra time wasn’t and error or a circumstance that has an addition processing time published such as the ed credit or injured spouse, that she could get with her supervisor and look at releasing partial funds do to hardship. After putting me on hold, she came back and told me they referred me to the tax advocate which is still going to take up to 14 days but because the IRS is sending my info to the advocate it might be faster because the advocate will know that my situation clearly qualifies because the IRS supervisor had looked at every thing and determined it was. She told me now just to watch for a call from the advocate and hopefully I’ll get at least some of it soon, and who knows we might get the premium credit amount any day and it would process.
WELL THERE YOU HAVE IT! I know last year the IRS eat a large hit because the 1095a from healthcare.gov were messed up bad, this year at healthcare.gov warns if your 1095a has the wrong information you will have to repay any over payment and file an amended return, they suggest if you think it looks wrong or you don’t know to call them before you file.
I get it, they couldn’t just tell me the issue because they would have to do something for me and however many other people are in the same boat.
