This will be my first year using an IP Pin (not to be confused with a regular PIN for e file). Last year I filed, not knowing I needed one and it was a mess. Thankfully I used the Taxpayer Advocate service to move it along and got my refund in April.

This year, I have yet to receive my letter with my new IP PIN. I was going to retrieve it online, but the system is down for maintenance :(

If you need the site to get your IP PIN once it’s back up and running, here it is:
      https://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-An-Identity-Protection-PIN

I have no choice but to wait for the letter or the website, whichever becomes available first….

Has anyone ever filed with an IP PIN and has a success story (aka normal/fast refund date)?

I asked for this Pin knowing it was an issue for me last year..

They didn’t even give me the option.. I even called before filing and asked about it .. How can I get one next year…?

I’m sick of being on this list…

I filed with a replacement IP PIN and haven’t received a DDD yet. No bars on wmr and I’m not able to order transcripts. I was told I wouldn’t get a refund for about 9 weeks. This is week 3 and I’m ready to rip my hair out. Uuggh

My husband and I filed on 1/28 and accepted on 1/28. My husband had to get a temporary ip pin because we moved and never received the notice from IRS with the original pin. WMR is showing one orange bar for me and when we check under my husbands name there are no bars Just a general message that says your return is being processed. This is very strange to me since we filed together. No DDD yet, no change in status on WMR either.

The myth about ordering transcripts may be true. Friday I was able to order both transcripts and Saturday morning I had a DDD for 2/3. It turns out, my experience with the PIN hasn’t been too bad.

Update: Today I was able to order both transcripts. I will update again with a DDD or actual DD

I received my IPPIN in the mail in the first week of January. I only had an issue with the processing of my refund during the first year, and I have been using the IPPIN for 4 years now. I think the only issue would be if someone was trying to steal your information again. My refunds have been pretty timely.

I had an incident back in 2010, where a someone filed an ammended tax return in my name. I didn’t find out about it until the following tax season (2011), when I filed with the IRS. The whole thing had me in tears. The gentlemen walked me through the process, and contacted the at origins for me. As it turned out, my sister-in-law’s address came up. I was able to report her for fraud, and the IRS perk used me with a IPPIN.

I received my PIN in the mail last week and filed as usual via TT. My federal was accepted on 1/19 when the IRS started accepting returns. As of now, I have 1 bar on WMR to show it’s been accepted. I will update when it moved to approved. I agree with James, hopefully the purpose of the PIN is keep things moving normally!

Why did it take you three or four months? I thought with the pin it should be a normal refund. This is my first yr having to use the pin and now youve got me worried! Last yr i didnt get my money until may because of identity theft thru TT..was hoping for a different experience this yr

I filed using a IP pin for three years straight and each time it took me three to four months to get my refund.

My spouse and I had our IP PIN emailed to us through turbotax. It took maybe 5 minutes.
