February 15th vs mid-February

What is your take on the meaning of the path act release date of mid-February on the wmr message and the explanation they give on the webpage about path law lifting on Feb 15th

@Taxprep22 that’s interesting, I have never read the actual law, only the articles saying mid-February. Do you think things will go more quickly this year since we are not dealing with a government shutdown?

Updates can happen any time. PATH states that the IRS cannot release refunds before the 15th day of the second month after the tax year it was filed. So February 15th. Not mid February, not February 22nd -2/15.

Tuesday and weds. we should see many happy folks on here. They in the irs can do whatever they want without a rhyme or reason. It boils down to this…we get it when we get it lol. Sucks.

Technically, mid-February is the 14th. Technically doesn’t seem to matter to the IRS. I have also seen people wanting to get picky about the time. 11:59 on the 15th. Last year the 15th was on a Friday and there was the shutdown to contend with. I anticipate a mass up date overnight Friday with many people seeing DDD’s Saturday morning. Given the Federal Holiday on Monday, I don’t expect to start seeing money hit accounts until Tuesday or Wednesday. For many years, refunds were only sent out 2 days per week. Wednesday for DD and Thursday for paper checks. The IRS no longer follows that schedule and will send refunds out Monday – Saturday.
