Feb. 4th – after 5pm resolution

So, I submitted my taxes using TurboTax on Feb. 4th, completely unaware of the computer issues the IRS was having since the day before. Of course, I’ve since heard the news, checked the status of my return and notice it’s still hung up at “Return Received”.

Last year, due to medical issues, I was extremely late in filing and had to mail my return in. I still haven’t even received that tax return, and just recently found out it was held up due to some fraud protection to where I had to call a special number to verify my identity and get it moving along. That return STILL doesn’t even show on the Where’s My Refund site at all.

The reason I even mention that is to point out that the last time I filed electronically around this time of year was in 2014, and that return like years prior, showed up in about 2 weeks.

So back to this return. I saw the post for people that filed on the 3rd and 4th of February and did a little more digging into the computer issues, when they were resolved and when exactly I submitted mine. It looks like the IRS issued a statement on Thurs. Feb. 4th saying “it had resumed processing individual and business tax returns at about 5 p.m. Eastern, a day after a “hardware failure” forced the shutdown of several tax processing systems, including the e-file system”. I went back to the email I received from TurboTax that said it was accepted by the IRS and it was timed at 9:35pm. I’m guessing…hoping even, that my return was submitted just after the IRS resumed processing returns. I know we had submitted it earlier that day and it was rejected due to a pin issue where I had to go back, correct it then resubmit. THAT first submission may have actually been before 5pm, and may have been for the best…again, I’m hoping.

So I don’t know if filing electronically on the 4th after 5pm puts me in some unique category vs. others that filed earlier in the day, but I feel like somehow I’m still in that same boat. Are there any others out there that filed later that evening on the 4th? Any progress?
